Do-it-yourself bird feeder made from ordinary materials. Bird feeders - options for how to make your own hands from ordinary materials (55 photos) Bird feeders made of wood

Tatyana Vasyukova

Birds have a hard time in winter. During snowstorms and severe frosts, many birds die of starvation. Tits are especially affected (out of ten tits, only one survives the winter.). How can we help them? Have to do feeders. In our group, we invited parents to participate in stock« bird feeder» . one feeder we hung it in a group area, opposite the window, for ease of observation. Many parents supported share and made various feeders by hanging them around their homes. But hang few feeders need to be filled daily food, and in special cold weather and twice a day. We held a consultation for parents, designed a folder-slider, where they talked about what is better to feed birds.

"We feeders made,

Winter is taking over. These days it is necessary to remember with a kind word and deed about our feathered friends. Now for them come very.

This is our second participation in this promotion. This year we also plan to take care of wintering birds and observe their life. Children,.

For several years in a row, the day of November 12 in our country is celebrated as the Day of the meeting of wintering birds. From this day on, hang out the feeders and start feeding.

The children and I often talked about birds and decided to make a bird feeder with our own hands. Children took an active part in making crafts.

Everyone knows that winter is not the most favorable time for birds, because it is cold and hungry outside. Talking with the children on this topic, we came.

Good evening to everyone who looked at the page! I have long wanted to take part in this action. Winter for birds is a sad time. Very cold.

Task formulation.

When temperatures drop below freezing, when snow falls, most food sources become inaccessible to birds. Insects hid, the ground covered with snow. Only a few trees have retained fruit on their branches, and some weeds with seeds stick out from under the snow. But this meal will soon run out.

In winter, birds have to spend more strength and energy looking for food. Needless to say, they also require much more energy to keep warm during the winter. There is less food in winter, more energy is needed. Imagine that during one frosty night, birds can spend up to 10% of their body weight for warmth! And the situation can be tragic if the bird is unable to replenish its stocks during the short winter day. And now remember that severe frosts can last for weeks ...

Small birds are especially difficult, they have a faster metabolism than large birds, and they require relatively more food. In addition, small birds feed on small food, which is primarily covered with a layer of snow or ice.

For example, we can cite such a sad statistic: during the average winter, about 90% of great tits die from cold and hunger. That is why they are the most common visitors to our feeders.

They make it easier for birds to find food, which means that they will spend less energy, which will help save them precious energy.

A lot of different birds flies to the feeder: tits, bullfinches, jays, goldfinches. Larisa Nikolaevna told us about them, we even drew them.

Ecological justification.

For the manufacture of the feeder, production waste was used - a plastic box and scraps of self-adhesive film. During disposal, these wastes would be burned, while harmful substances would enter the atmosphere, which are obtained during the combustion of chemicals. Although my work required very little material, even this can serve as an example of proper (harmless) waste disposal.

In addition, plastic is a very easy-to-use material; it is easily sawn with a hacksaw and a jigsaw. All work was carried out in a ventilated room, during daylight hours, so that electricity costs were minimal.

Product testing.

Together with the guys, we fixed the feeder on a tree next to the school and poured food. From the classroom window, I could clearly see the tree on which my feeder hung. The day was windy, the feeder swayed slightly, and the titmouse deftly flew into the "Cafe" and regaled themselves with treats. Due to the fact that a high shoulder is made from the sides, the snow does not sweep on the “table”, and it will be possible to hang a piece of lard on the hook.

Product analysis.

Getting down to work, I did not think how everything would turn out, how many things needed to be done and taken into account in order for the gift to turn out to be beautiful, reliable and convenient. For a long time I could not decide what form to make the feeder.

Now I realized that you can make a gift with your own handsnotworse, and even better than in the store, because you take into account all the wishes.

Look around you, how many good deeds are waiting for us. Watching birds is very interesting and pleasant, they are so different and funny. By hanging such a feeder under the window, you will not only do a good deed, but also get great satisfaction.

Hurry to do good!

Feeders of my classmates

Bird feeders in winter help to save birds from hunger. However, this is not the only reason why you should start making them.

By themselves, beautiful and original feeders can become a unique decoration for your garden.

And the process of their creation instills in the younger generation a sense of responsibility and concern for weak creatures.

In addition, this is an invaluable time that allows parents to spend time with their children with interest and benefit.

Wooden bird feeders

There are several types of feeders that can be made from wood. Firstly, these are feeders that look like a base made of plywood or other similar material with sides around the edges that prevent treats for birds from crumbling.

Most often, such a design is suspended from a tree branch on thick ropes.

But such a feeder has a number of disadvantages. The most obvious is that such a design does not protect the feed poured into it from precipitation and bad weather. It is also quite light and can move or roll over with the wind.

The second version of wood feeders is more like a house and has a roof. In such feeders, the food is reliably protected from the weather. The base of the structure looks the same as in the first version, only there are supports on it that support the roof.

The roof can be either straight or pitched. Any child can make a straight roof, because in fact it is a rectangular piece of plywood, only slightly larger than the base.

The pitched roof has a slightly more complex design, but it better than those that, unlike a straight roof, snow does not accumulate on it and it does not have to be cleaned periodically.

There are also original options for feeders made of wood. For example, a feeder can be made from an ordinary log. To do this, you will need a chainsaw, a chisel and a hammer, as well as a chain and rings for hanging.

To begin with, you need to saw off two round logs from the log on both sides of the future feeder. Then a wedge is cut along the entire log, and longitudinal and transverse cuts are made, not reaching the bark of about 5 centimeters.

This is necessary in order to subsequently make it easier to extract the middle from the workpiece with a chisel. After all the work is done, the previously cut rounds are nailed on both sides of the feeder.

It remains only to screw the rings and attach the chain on which you can hang the feeder.

Plastic bottle feeders

For bird feeding, plastic bottles are also used as feeders. It can be both containers of 5-6 liters, and small 1.5-2 liter bottles.

Most often, a plastic bottle is turned into a feeder by cutting out several windows in the body.

Then such feeders are hung horizontally or vertically, depending on the design. For the convenience of birds, cross perches are installed near the bottom of the feeder.

But sometimes you can find quite original feeders, which provide for the automatic addition of feed. These are the so-called bunker feeders.

Such a feeder can be two wooden spoons inserted at an angle into the through holes in the bottle. Thus, the food from the bottle will gradually spill onto the spoon.

A bunker feeder can be made from a 2-liter bottle. To do this, it is enough to cut the bottle in half, make round holes in the lower part, and turn the top upside down and put the neck down. The top can be covered with a lid or a disposable plate. In such a feeder for a long time it will not be necessary to add food.

Improvised materials in the creation of bird feeders

The simplest feeder you can think of is a garland of rowan, cone or berries. A treat for birds strung on a rope will decorate young trees in the garden. The only disadvantage of such a feeder is that as the feed is eaten, the garland loses its appearance.

An interesting solution would be to make a feeder in the form of lumps with grain or seeds. Such decorations can be placed on benches, tables, or simply hung on trees in nets, in which tangerines are usually sold in a store.

They are based on fat or gelatin. The lard is melted and the main food is added to it. Then the finished substance is poured into molds (it can be baking molds or an ordinary balloon) and placed in a cold place to solidify.

They also do it with dissolved gelatin mixed with grain.

If you have a coconut shell lying around, then it can also be used to make a feeder.

As a result, such a design will be invisible on the tree. Juice or milk boxes are also suitable for making feeders. Their very design will not differ much from simple feeders made from plastic bottles.

Photo of bird feeder ideas

Birds will love bottle, wood, box, orange peel, and even completely edible feeders.

A simple bird feeder made from a plastic bottle

What do you need

  • large plastic bottle.

How to do

Cut a large hole in the top of the bottle. After that, it remains only to fill it with food and hang it by the handle.

You can also use a smaller bottle. Make two through large holes in it and thread a wooden stick under them. Pass the thread through the lid, as shown in the video below, and hang the feeder.

Feeder from a plastic bottle with sprinkled food

What do you need

  • plastic bowl;

  • scissors;

  • awl;

  • plastic bottle;

  • small tray;

  • bolt with washer and nut;

  • bird food;

  • wire;

  • pliers.

How to do

If the bowl is too tall, trim the edges. Make a hole in the bottom of the bowl and in the lid of the bottle. Make a hole in the tray where the structure will be installed. Connect the lid, bowl and tray as shown in the video.

Cut a small piece above the neck of the bottle so that food can pass through it. Pour it into the bottle and screw on the cap with attached parts. Screw the wire to the bottom of the bottle and make a hook out of it. Details are in the video.

Turn the feeder over so that the bottle is upside down. Food will gradually pour out of it into a bowl. To add food to the bottle, simply open the lid, pour it in and close the container again.

The bottle can be attached to the board to make it even more comfortable for the birds to sit:

And this video shows how to make a similar design from two bottles of different sizes:

Plastic bottle house feeder

What do you need

  • plastic bottle;

  • jute twine;

  • glue;

  • scissors;

  • braid;

  • lace;

  • plastic spoons;

  • paint and brush;

  • glue gun;

  • wooden stick;

  • wire.

How to do

Cut two windows opposite each other at the bottom of the bottle. Wrap the bottle with twine, attaching it with glue. Glue the braid around the windows, and lace at the bottom.

Paint the spoons, dry and glue them to the top of the bottle as shown in the video. Make a hole under the windows and thread a wooden stick through them. Under the bottle cap, also make two through holes, thread the wire, twist and hang the feeder.

You can decorate the house in different ways, for example:

Bird feeder made from ice cream sticks

What do you need

  • Wooden sticks for ice cream;

  • paint and brush or spray paint;

  • scotch;

  • glue gun;

  • scissors;

  • ribbon or yarn.

How to do

Dye the sticks in any color and dry. Lay a few sticks out on a flat surface to form the bottom of the feeder. Tape them together to secure.

Glue one stick on the two edges of the figure opposite each other. From the other edges, attach another stick. Fold a few more rows in the same way. Glue four sticks vertically outside.

Then make two parts for the roof as shown in the video. Separately, glue two sticks with an edge to each other and glue the made parts to them. Attach the resulting roof to the vertical supports.

Put three sticks together, and glue another one horizontally in the center. Cut the sticks from three sides and glue the part to the bottom of the feeder. Pull a ribbon or yarn under the roof, tie it in a knot and hang the feeder.

A more durable house can also be built from wood. True, you have to work hard:

Log bird feeder

What do you need

  • Saw;

  • thick and thin branches;

  • drill;

  • 2 square pieces of plywood;

  • self-tapping screws;

  • secateurs;

  • roofing material;

  • construction stapler.

How to do

Saw off from thick branches two identical segments and two smaller segments. You will also need five short pieces of branches of medium thickness.

Drill in the corners of the plywood one hole at a time with a thin drill. FROM reverse side drill thicker with a drill, but not through. Screw thick branches in the corners, on one side - one medium, and on the sides - two medium ones. Details are shown in the video.

Weave a fence around the screwed bases from thin branches. Cut off the excess with secateurs. Make holes in the bottom. Attach a second sheet of plywood on top and cover it with roofing material.

Attach the bottom of the feeder to a long, thick branch and stick it into the ground.

    I suggest: GOK to give the task to Rem. construction shop to donate waste wood materials to schools so that the children themselves make feeders and hang them around the city
  • Alexander 30-01-2014, 01:57
    It is necessary to feed the birds, especially in such a cold weather. But we must understand that the birds are alienated from the independent search for food. Therefore, you need to either alternate or change the location of the feeders. Yes, the feeder should not be hung on the balcony, but somewhere on the street. Not everyone likes to clean the balcony and visors from the waste products of birds. By the way, I also feed myself, but I sprinkle seeds on the way to the garage, where I saw bullfinches, titmouse and the ubiquitous sparrows, my daughter can also boast that she feeds birds. Be kind, but in moderation!

    Now in schools they don’t teach anything at work, only one theory, they don’t work either on machine tools or on sewing machines, they don’t do anything. Are the parents blind or something, they don’t see that their children are not accustomed to elementary labor skills, are they satisfied with such “labor education”? Well, we must finally be more active and not indifferent to our children and their future, what and whom will they receive in the future - clumsy, incapable of hammering a nail?

  • Moroshko 29-01-2014, 17:06
    1. The feeder must have a roof, otherwise the food may rain or fall asleep, and it will become unsuitable for birds. 2. Feeder openings should be wide enough for birds to easily get in and out of the feeder. Better - "open walls" 3. To make it last for more than one year - make it out of wood. Presented feeder - even for shy bullfinches. This season there are a lot of waxwings in the city that like larger food. Pieces of bacon can be attached to the lid on hooks. In the city - which is preparing for its anniversary, such feeders will look more aesthetically pleasing.
