So far, the Day of Customs Veterans has not been given official status. Since not a state structure is involved in its establishment, but a public organization - the Union of Veterans of the Customs Service of Russia. At its congress in 1999 on June 10, it was decided to start celebrating this date as the Day of Veterans of the Customs Service. The initiative, which led to a positive result, came from below, expressed in numerous wishes that came all the time from public organizations, former employees of customs authorities.
Customs Veterans Day is tied to May 29th for a reason. In 1918, on May 29, the decree of the Council of People's Commissars came into force, which determines the procedure for the actions of customs institutions.
