Love story or “love story” is a photo shoot where you have a great opportunity to meet the newlyweds, make friends, have a glass of fruit drink. In general, this is the usual photo shoot of a couple that precedes the wedding. Why is this photo shoot so important and why do I just tell you.
Let's start with the fact that not everyone likes to be photographed, not everyone knows how to do it, and many are even afraid of this and embarrassed. So that your newlyweds do not hesitate to you, so that you enter into their confidence and they stop hiding under the mask of a banal smile - you just need to take a picture of them once, so to speak, to practice before the event responsible for you.
A love story is a good opportunity to get to know each other and in practice to feel what lies ahead for you, it is likely that you will immediately notice mistakes or some kind of discomfort on the part of the models and eliminate it once and for all. It is very important to get in touch with the newlyweds, your task is to make them perceive you as a friend and comrade, and not as a photographer.

Of course, this does not always work out, but it is important that at the wedding photo shoot we all feel comfortable, including myself. What should be done?
First you need to offer a pre-wedding photo session to the newlyweds, say that you will include these photos in the future.

Agree on a place with the newlyweds, most likely, the choice of a place will fall on your strong shoulders, so think over a couple of options in advance to offer them immediately. It can be some kind of house by the lake, a park, a fortress, etc.

Equipment
If during reportage shooting I prefer universal zoom lenses (for example, Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f / 2.8G), then for a photo shoot of lovers, fast primes with a beautiful pattern and bokeh are perfect. Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4G or Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 85mm f/1.4G - references focal length for portrait photography. Their use is possible due to the fact that the reporting part here fades into the background, and you can more accurately control the situation while choosing a plot or searching for interesting light, angle.
Pay attention to the ultra wide-angle creative Nikon lens AF Fisheye-NIKKOR 16mm f/2.8D (180 degree angle of view for full frame cameras): one of my favorites, it will take you beyond the classic photography and will perfectly dilute your portraits.

Separately, I want to dwell on the camera: if you often shoot dynamic scenes, choose a camera with strong autofocus. My main D4S camera is great for any creative task. as more budget option take a closer look at the Nikon D750 - this camera has no competitors in this price range. Also a good budget and high-quality solution would be the Nikon D7500 crop camera.
Psychology and contact with models
The first contact usually occurs during the acquaintance, at a preliminary meeting. This is a great way to get to know a couple better. Be sure to ask how the guys met, how they like to spend time - all this in the future will determine not only the subject of the photo shoot and its location, but will also allow you to properly build the entire filming process. Find common ground between the couple and you - these may be common interests, favorite hobby and even eye color.
It is very important to tune in to the same wave.

I strongly do not recommend filming Love Story without first getting to know each other. But if it still happened, allow extra time for a photo session (plus 1-2 hours) - so you can play it safe and establish contact with the guys before shooting. When you arrive, feel free to take a walk and chat together; don't grab the camera right away.

Divide the photo shoot into two parts. In the first half, joke more and take funny and carefree pictures: it is always easier to laugh than to sympathize, empathize. At the second stage, when you get used to each other, you can switch to a more romantic plot.

During the photo session, do not be too intrusive: your main task is to create and maintain emotional comfort for the couple. Over time, you will learn to feel better about people, which will allow you to take less staged, but more sincere photos.
Script or improvisation
So, when you have learned more about the guys and their preferences, it's time to decide on the plot for the future story. There are two main areas:
1. A day in the life of lovers
One of my favorite genres. Almost complete improvisation. The only thing worth planning in advance is the place and time for shooting. This approach allows the couple to be in a relaxed atmosphere, and you get truly “live” pictures.
It can be either an ordinary walk around the city, or something extreme that is not typical of your couple. Do not underestimate the importance of the shooting location - invite the guys to visit the roof of the house or fly on hot-air balloon: such an adventure will not only help you take emotional photos, but will also remain in your memory for a lifetime.
In a staged report, it is important to catch the fine line between theatricality and sincere feelings. On the one hand, you guide the models, occasionally telling them what to do. And on the other hand, catch “live” moments during what is happening. Use this technique, and shooting will be easy and relaxed.

Improvisation is great, but I recommend getting to the location early, scouting the location, and picking the spots with the most interesting light. In the future, this will help not to waste time searching and focus directly on the creative process.
2. Himself a director

Try to avoid "awkward silence", communicate throughout the photo shoot. If you see that the models are frozen or unsure of their poses and actions - joke, defuse the situation, but just don't be silent. If a sense of humor is not your strong point, then it's time to start developing it.

Turn your photo session into a game
Come up with something that the couple can really get interested in, like a dance talent contest or an ice cream eating championship. Such "mini-games" will help the models to relax and imperceptibly involve in the shooting process.
Time and place matter
Everyone knows that best time for shooting - sunrise and sunset. It is during this period that the light is the softest and most beautiful, and the sun can play the role of a backlight. The main thing is to avoid shooting in the open sun close to noon (11:00-15:00). Ideal and practical: start shooting 3 hours before sunset to capture the last rays.
It is not necessary to be on the verge of a wedding to want to do a love story photo shoot. Every couple in love who enjoys communicating with each other often wants to also find visual confirmation of their feelings and relationships. 3. Matching clothes
Clothes make a photoshoot! You can let your clients choose the wardrobe they want to wear for the photo shoot. Keep in mind that there are two issues that must be taken into account.
First, male and women's clothing should overlap with each other in terms of images, colors and, ideally, even complement each other in design. Secondly, you, in turn, need to remember that the couple will definitely want to have some kind of framed picture on the wall, so it should not go out of style and general view the room in which it will hang. 4. Hair and makeup
