How to make a notebook with your own cover. Interesting cover design for a notebook. Master Class. In English language

Using fabric scraps you can make many useful and interesting things. For example, making such a necessary thing as a notebook cover with your own hands will be useful if you regularly take notes, notes, etc. To create a notebook cover like the one in the example, you will need very few scraps of fabric left over from previous master classes.

Required materials and tools:

  • notebook A5 or other format;
  • fabric scraps (the brighter the better);
  • non-woven lining fabric (pellon);
  • ribbon (for bookmark);
  • linen fabric.

Cutting out the details

From pieces of bright multi-colored fabric, cut seven squares measuring 4.5 x 4.5 cm. Sew them so that you get a strip measuring 23 x 4.5 cm.

Open your notepad and measure its width. The width of my notebook is 30 cm. Multiply this measurement by 4.5 to determine the width of the rectangle of lining fabric. The height of the rectangle of lining fabric should be equal to the height of your notebook plus 0.5 cm.

For my notebook, I cut out a rectangle measuring 53x22 cm.

We continue to cut

Lay the backing rectangle fusible side up and mark the center of the long side. Place the patchwork strip 10cm to the right of center. The ends of the strip should extend 0.5 cm beyond the fabric. Iron the strip so that it sticks to the fabric in the desired position. From linen fabric, cut out one small rectangle measuring 14x23 cm and one large rectangle measuring 39x23 cm. Pin the smaller of these rectangles to the patchwork strip on the right side so that they are connected with right sides together.

Stitching

Sew these pieces together using a 0.5 cm seam allowance. Iron the piece to secure it to the lining fabric.

Do the same with the larger rectangle, now on the left side. Sew two straight lines to the left of the quilt strip. Use threads that match the color.

Making a bookmark

At this point we will add a bookmark. To do this, cut a piece of tape 1.5 times larger than your notebook. Sew the ribbon at the top center of the back cover. Fold the short sides of the rectangle 0.5 cm and stitch. Then fold the short sides inward 9.5cm and pin.

Lining

Cut a rectangle of fabric to form the lining of the cover. The edges of the rectangle can be finished with a zigzag stitch or overlock, but this is not necessary. Pin the rectangle into the center of the cover as shown. Sew across the top and bottom using a 0.5cm seam allowance. If you added a tab, make sure it is out of the way as you sew.

The cover is ready

Turn the cover right side out and iron it. From the outside everything should look something like this.

The inside of the cover looks like this. This is how I made my first cover for a notebook with my own hands, I even really liked it and I will definitely practice this master class again!

If you liked the master class, leave a couple of lines of gratitude to the author of the article in the comments. The simplest “Thank you” will give the author a desire to please us with new articles. You can also add the article to your social bookmarks!

The notebook is a constant companion for our children. IN kindergarten- this is a notebook for speech therapy sessions, notebook for drawing, for mathematical dictations.

When a child goes to school, he will need a whole “bunch” of notebooks, in all subjects and more than one each. There are also printed workbooks.

And the covers of the notebooks are thin and immediately bend. And if they are not very thin, they get dirty quickly.

Covers help protect notebooks from damage. By the way, buying them in bulk is of course cheaper. If the class is friendly, parents can order covers in bulk from "Stationery Wholesale in Ukraine". But you can do it on your own.

I offer two options for DIY notebook covers.

Method one.

Quite simple. Sometimes teachers use it to cover notebooks for tests.

A double leaf is torn out from the middle of an ordinary notebook.

A strip 1-2 centimeters wide is folded at the bottom of the unfolded sheet.

This fold is tucked under the spine of the notebook.

That's it - the cover is ready!

The only disadvantage of this cover is that it is not very durable and does not adhere well to the notebook.

The second method is no more difficult, but with its help you can make a high-quality cover.

Method two.

We will need large paper. For example, sheets of colored paper for children's creativity. You can use wrapping paper or even leftover wallpaper. The main thing is that the paper is not too thick.

I have an ordinary double sheet from a set of colored paper. The set is cheap, the paper is single-sided, and one half of the sheet is orange, the other is purple. But that doesn't interfere.

Colored paper is immediately the right size. If you use other paper, you need to cut out a 28 cm by 40 cm rectangle from it and fold the leaf in half along the larger side.

We unfold a large sheet of paper and place the notebook on the fold, leaving approximately the same distance at the top and bottom.

We bend the strip at the top.

We measure the height of the notebook and fold the remaining part at the bottom.

We tuck the folded strips “under the spine” at the top and bottom.

We bend the protruding part of the colored paper to the left.

To prevent the curved ends from puffing up and sticking out in untidy tails from the front side, it is advisable to tuck the corners inward.

And only then bend it completely.

Do a similar procedure with the back cover of the notebook.

And for reliability, you can glue the bent parts with adhesive tape.

You can, of course, buy unusual notebooks in the store. But it’s much more interesting to beautifully decorate a notebook for school with your own hands.

For a photo collage, you can use colored paper, photographs, magazine clippings, pages from old books, etc.

How to beautifully decorate a notebook using a photo collage

Select the images you want to use in your collage. You can choose them in one tone, or, on the contrary, make the collage bright and contrasting.

Cut the pictures into strips of equal width. In turn, cut the strips into equilateral triangles. You can draw them according to a template in advance so that the triangles turn out to be truly identical.

Cut out two sheets of paper - the basis for the collage. The size of the sheets should be equal to the size of the cover, plus one centimeter on each side for the hem. Glue the triangles onto the sheet in any order or in a thoughtful pattern.

When the glue has dried, glue the finished collages onto both sides of the notebook cover, carefully tucking in the free edges of the sheets.

If the cover of the notebook is made of hard, non-laminated cardboard, you can beautifully decorate the notebook with a photo collage without first gluing the images onto the base. The triangles can be glued directly onto the cardboard cover. In this case, you need to carefully calculate the size and number of triangular blanks to avoid untidy cuts along the edges.

You can leave fairly wide joints between the triangles. They will be useful for signing a notebook, or decorating it with additional graphic drawings.

Today's master class is dedicated to beginning artists. I'll show you how you can design a notebook cover in a bright and interesting way. Drawing such patterns relieves stress and allows you to relax. You can enhance the effect by simply turning on calm music. You will spend time usefully for yourself and make a beautiful thing at the same time!

In one of our past master classes, I talked about how now there are many ways to express yourself in art through drawing. Even if you have never picked up a brush or pencil, you can buy special paintings by numbers wholesale from the manufacturer, the drawing of which is divided into small blocks. All blocks are numbered. Each number corresponds to a different color. By coloring the picture according to the color number, you get a solid picture. But today we will not use such technology. We will draw ourselves using compasses and colored markers. So let's get started. You will need:

  • notebook on rings, without cells;
  • markers of different thicknesses;
  • compass;
  • watercolor and brushes;
  • lamination sheet.
The work is divided into two stages:
  1. Creating a black and white drawing.
  2. Coloring and lamination.
1. First, draw circles on a sheet of paper - this will be the basis of your pattern. You can make them different or the same size, with or without an outline. In this work, everything depends on your imagination.

Then draw a thick marker around the circles around which the rest of the pattern will be located.

Add detail to the edges of the circles using a thinner marker. It can be circles, triangles, squares or stripes, in general, whatever you want.

Using markers of varying thicknesses, start drawing a pattern inside the circles.

Draw patterns until you fill the entire sheet with them. These are the different options you may have. To create a 3D effect, darken the edges of the circles and the holes between them.

2. Once you have filled the entire sheet, color your drawing with watercolors. And then trace the pattern again to make the drawing clearer. When you think everything is ready, laminate the drawing so that it will last longer as a cover. That's all! Your patterned notebook cover is ready!

From childhood, mothers teach their children that everything needs to be taken care of. The same applies to books, notebooks and various notepads, which, by the way, wear out more often than usual, since they are constantly in someone’s hands. In this article I would like to talk about how you can make various covers for such printed publications.

Paper

The first way to make a book cover is quite simple. To do this, you just need plain paper. This option is suitable if you need to wrap a school textbook or other literature that very often falls into your hands and quickly loses its attractive appearance. So, you need to take a sheet of paper that will protrude 3 cm from the top, bottom and sides of the open book. If one sheet is not enough, you can try gluing a couple of pieces together with tape. Now you need to make special convenient pockets along the edges of the paper into which the hard book palette will be tucked. First, a sheet of paper needs to be folded from the bottom and top so that it completely matches the size of the book. The edges are wrapped, let's move on. Now the sides are folded to fit the size of the cover. That's it, the cover is ready. It turned out to be a small pocket into which a book is inserted at the edges. Here it is important to correctly calculate the cover so that it does not turn out smaller (it will tear) or larger (it will tend to come off).

Cardboard

The next method is how to make a book cover from cardboard. This way it will be more dense and can be used for years. The principle will be almost the same as in the previous version - you just need to bend the edges correctly. But in this option you need to independently make a double deflection of the cardboard in the center of the book, where the spine will go. After all, cardboard does not bend as easily as paper. To do this, you can use scissors, which are convenient for pressing through denser materials. The base for the cover is ready! Now you need to decide how she will dress for the book. There may be several options. The easiest way is to simply glue it onto the old cover with glue, but this option is suitable if the book’s palette is pretty worn out. And it won’t look very aesthetically pleasing. Or you can make pockets from stationery film into which your favorite volume can be placed. To do this, you need to cut out pockets of the required size and glue them with tape. But bad luck, now the title side is spoiled. No problem, you can just decorate it again. This is done using colored paper, fabrics, ribbons and other available materials. They sit on the glue and create a completely new product. That's it, the cover has been created and is ready!

Leather

Leather may seem very interesting. To do this, you need to stock up on fabric of the required size, given that you will need more pieces to create pockets. So, the first stage in preparing such a cover is cutting out the product. Next comes soaking the skin. This is necessary to make it much more convenient and easier to work with. You will need hot water and a little time (by the way, it is better to take the first steps in the evening). When the skin is sufficiently moistened, it should be removed and blotted with a clean cloth. Now all that remains is to bend it in half to the size of the book and leave it to dry overnight ( this material dries in about a day). Let's look further at how to make a book cover. The next morning you can start working again. Using a special chisel (you can also use a chisel for carving), approximately 0.3-.05 cm from the edge of the product, you need to lay a border around the entire perimeter of the cover; there will be a line there, which, in addition to fastening the two parts, will also perform a decorative function. You can carry out the same manipulations on the pockets into which the book will be placed. Now you need to sew the main part with the pockets, for this you will need a sewing machine. That's all, the product is ready. Now all that remains is to dry the cover completely. However, it is important to remember that this must be done while folded so that the leather folds correctly. That's all, now everyone knows how to make a leather book cover.

Disk

Today, quite a lot of people still store various information on disks. But for some reason there are always not enough covers for them. This situation is easy to fix; you can just do them yourself. There are several ways to make a CD cover. You will definitely need paper for this. It needs to be cut in a long strip, leaving allowances for bends of approximately 2-3 cm on the sides. The width of the envelope must correspond to the size of the disc, then it will not fall out of its cover. Now you need to bend the paper along its length so that one side remains a little longer, because you also need to make a kind of lock. It is worth noting that the final product will look like a regular postal envelope. The sides of the paper are glued together, and the remaining top is folded so that the cover can be closed, as it were. That's all, the disk will be stored securely. However, there are also special programs for making CD covers. But there is a nuance here: such a cover will be beautiful, bright, it can be printed and cut out, but it will not protect the disc from unnecessary scratches and other damage.

Album

You can also try to figure out how to make an album cover. If a person really loves to draw and has created real masterpieces in his album, why not make his cover beautiful? For this you will need cardboard, padding polyester and fabric. The cover will be soft! Cardboard and padding polyester must be cut exactly to the size of the album, but for fabric allowances of approximately 3-4 cm should be made. The soft part is glued to the top of the cardboard (for reliability), and everything is wrapped in a piece of the selected fabric. You can also attach it with glue or double-sided tape. This should be done with two sides, the front and back of the cover. The product is ready, all that remains is to fasten it. To do this, the parts can be placed on glue or stitched on a sewing machine (if the cardboard is not too thick). First you need to fold the cover so that the album opens easily. Well, you can decorate your product with both various applications and rhinestone beads. If you wish, you can make a string for the album.

Diary

The master class “How to make a diary cover in scrapbooking style” may seem interesting. For this you will need a plastic base, paper for watercolors, clippings from books or newspapers, as well as old atlases, notebooks and printouts for decoration. First, the plastic base needs to be cut to the size of the diary and folded in the center so that the cover looks natural when closed. Next, using used but still wet paper, you need to age the paper (pressing the bag against the paper over the entire sheet). Light brown spots should appear. Now everything is dry. After this, you can slightly scorch the edges of the cover with a lit match to create the effect of a discarded manuscript rescued from the fireplace. Next, the paper is tinted; for this, paint is applied to a piece of foam rubber and small prints are made along the entire perimeter of the product. Decorative blanks are also tinted. Now you need to glue all the prepared parts onto the cover. By the way, it is better to use glue for this rather than glue, so the paper will not look warped, but will remain smooth.

Notebook

You can also try to figure out how to make it with an interesting newspaper print. To do this, you will need thick drawing paper (not cardboard!), an old but not worn newspaper, as well as stationery. First, four main parts are cut out of paper, equal in size to each other and slightly larger than the notebook (about 5-7 mm) and one strip, which will be attached to the fold of the notebook at the back. All parts are glued together so that there is a gap of approximately 1 mm between them. This can be done using regular tape. First, two identical parts are glued in a row, then a strip on the bend, and again two identical parts. Now along one side of this “locomotive” you need to place strips of double-sided tape quite thickly, and the newspaper is immediately glued to them, bending a little at the edges. Next, you need to glue two identical parts on each side so that there remains a pocket into which the notebook will fit. To do this, you can first prepare small strips of drawing paper, this will be more reliable. After all, if you glue the product onto a newspaper, it can quickly tear and the cover will be irrevocably damaged. Now you need to insert the notebook into the cover and put it under a press overnight. In the morning everything will be ready, and with such a notebook you can easily go to school. And a newspaper print will not reveal to anyone the secret for what subject this notebook is used.
