The presented project is an event, the process of formation of the visual language of the artist: graphic writing, relationship with space and the viewer. In this situation, the gallery transforms into a cartographic plane fixing the artist's observations, becomes his plastic diary, where works play the role of documents that record the process of creating a work. The exhibition as a system of existence of knowledge, the experience of the artist forms a space for conversation about the possibility of freedom and the possibility of personal necessary conditions existence of education.
Ilya Grishaev was born in 1984 in Perm. Graduated from the Perm Humanitarian and Technological Institute in 2007 (Department of Design). He studied at the Art-S studio with M. G. Pavlyukevich and V. V. Selivanov. Studied at the Icon Painting Department of the Perm Theological School (2009-2010). Graduated from the "School of a Young Artist" of the Pro Arte Foundation (2012-2013). Since 2011 he has been living and working in St. Petersburg. Ilya Grishaev is engaged in the study of artistic and figurative representations in fine arts associated with the ideas of Modernism of the early 20th century, when the writers and artists of the Surrealism movement (André Breton, Guillaume Apollinaire, Max Ernst, Rene Magritte) became interested in the problems of "irrational" and "unconscious" in creativity, which marked the beginning of the ideas of abstract art Abstractionism. In Grishaev's early works, there are still recognizable symbols - letters and numbers, but gradually he moves on to creating "emotional spots" and "plastic traces", in which a randomly obtained abstract graphic drawing is endowed with subjective significance and is read as an element of an independent artistic text (which the artist does not decrypts). The interpretation of a drawing as a conditional "letter" or "text" allows the artist to use the entire arsenal of work with traditional letter signs: from graphic writing (using it both in chamber and monumental fresco format) to a three-dimensional object (where each "letter" turns into into a three-dimensional sculpture). “From November 28, the Voronezh Center for Contemporary Art hosted an opening personal exhibition Ilya Grishaev"Her slogan is on." About ten people came to the opening. However, not everyone managed to understand the author's intention.
The opening began with the artist's story that he was between two cities ( Perm and St. Petersburg), and about his work.
- I call it graphics, for me it is writing and language, which I somehow relate to modernity, - shared Ilya Grishaev.
The exhibition itself includes three rooms, in which the author's abstract frescoes-patterns are on the walls. As the artist himself notes, he is inspired by everything in the world - from mathematics to field notes, anthropological research. The highlight of the exhibition is that the author draws " on the spot».
– I try to match the murals to the situation, this is not what I prepared at home. It's all done here, and for me it's a key moment,” the artist comments.
After a short introductory speech by the author, everyone could walk through the halls and take a closer look at his work.
- Extremely strange exposure. An art object should either have a powerful message and meaning, or catch the eye with its beauty, and ideally, both. Well, at this exhibition there would not be one of the points, there was not a single one. Even the author himself does not really know why and what he is doing., a student of the Faculty of Journalism Alexander Nikiforov shared his impressions.
Yes, this exposition is not suitable for everyone, but anyone can visit it from November 29 to December 10 and personally try to understand the author's intention. Good luck to you."
What I saw in this report caused a desire to immediately answer, but then, in addition to the nine people present at the opening of the exhibition, involuntarily, thanks to my subjective opinion, there would be more people who wanted to stare at this eccentricity Ilya Grishaev. Any scandal in the media is already the key to success. Perhaps the organizers of the exhibition were counting on this. Now it is coming to an end and I will write a few words after this performance, so be it.
