Digital camera with Wi-Fi. Digital cameras with Wi-Fi support - prices What does Wi-Fi provide in a camera

The third and simplest option for wireless communication is support for Eye-Fi cards. In this case, however, the camera cannot act as a wireless access point.

Operating principle and functionality

Basic Wi-Fi capabilities in cameras are completely trivial. This is, for example, copying photos to mobile devices, hot backup, sending content to social media or cloud storage, remote viewfinder and remote control taking photos and videos. Other functions are less obvious and are not available from all manufacturers - viewing pictures on TVs with DLNA support, geotagging using a smartphone or tablet, establishing a connection using an NFC module or QR codes, downloading additional applications to the camera or updating the firmware.

To use most wireless functions, you need to download and install special software for smartphones, tablets and regular PCs. Applications are provided free of charge and often have requirements for the operating system version and the mobile device itself for full compatibility. Let's look at each of them in more detail.

Transferring data to a mobile device

One of basic functions, available for almost any camera with Wi-Fi. By installing the appropriate application, you will have access to the pictures on the camera's memory card. The app lets you choose which photos to download, and also allows you to change the file format or resolution before downloading to save space.

Transfer data to PC

The ability to transfer footage to a PC via a wireless router was one of the first to appear in cameras. In this case, special software must be installed on the computer, but in most cases it is not required.

Working as a server

Sometimes you need to quickly send pictures to a group of people who are not at all interested in installing any applications on their smartphones or tablets. In this case, the server function with the function of quick access and copying of pictures will be useful.

Remote viewfinder and remote control

An interesting function that you can find a number of useful applications. Remote control is suitable, for example, for filming in wildlife or for self-portraits. In this case, the image captured by the camera lens is transmitted to the smartphone screen. This happens with a slight delay, which should be kept in mind when shooting dynamic scenes remotely. Different manufacturers offer a different set of available settings that can be changed remotely. Selecting a focus point, zooming, adjusting exposure, and starting video recording are the main features. The footage can be immediately copied to a mobile device for further work.

Sending by e-mail

Also one of the basic functions of a Wi-Fi transmitter. There are two ways to send here: e-mail- directly or via tablet/smartphone. In the first case, the camera connects to the Internet and your mailbox and sends pictures to the specified address. In the second case, the photos are first copied to the mobile device and sent using its own Internet connection.

One-touch transfer

If there is an NFC module in the camera and mobile device, you can not only quickly establish a Wi-Fi connection between them, but also reset selected data from the camera with one touch. Working with NFC is supported in Android OS version 2.3.3 and higher.

Special effects

Mobile applications from some manufacturers allow you to apply various artistic effects to pictures transferred from the camera via Wi-Fi. Often this option is available in the camera itself, but if you use it for remote shooting, it will be more convenient to apply effects from a smartphone or tablet.

Reservation

Most mobile applications allow you to back up all your footage in real time. Backup can also be performed on a PC. It differs from the usual transfer of pictures via Wi-Fi by the automation of the entire process. The camera will transfer every captured frame to a smartphone or tablet without external intervention. Or a laptop.

Upload to social networks

As with e-mail, sending files to social networks can be done directly or via a mobile device. The list of social networks is quite large - YouTube, Picassa, Flickr, Facebook, Twitter and so on. The final list depends on the specific application, manufacturer, and even camera model. Before uploading, you can change the resolution of the pictures, as well as add your own comments. It is noteworthy that companies that supply their products to Russian-speaking countries also offer support for the VKontakte and Odnoklassniki networks. However, this is still rather an exception to the rule.

Upload to cloud storage

Cloud storage is rapidly gaining popularity. Dropbox, Google Drive, Microsoft SkyDrive are popular services for synchronizing and storing data. A number of camera manufacturers allow you to upload pictures to such storages, again with the help of special mobile applications.

Geotagging

Apps that transfer pictures over Wi-Fi also allow you to add geotags. Geodata is supplied by the GPS module of your tablet or smartphone. Pictures with such tags can later be uploaded to social networks and displayed on a world map.

Firmware update

When connected to a Wi-Fi network with Internet access, some cameras can automatically check for the latest firmware and automatically download and install it. A very convenient, although rarely used, function.

Remote viewing without copying

This function allows you to view the contents of a memory card remotely without downloading pictures and videos. Often, watching videos remotely is not possible.

Wireless printing

A number of modern printers are Wi-Fi compatible, which means it is possible to transfer images from the camera to the printer for printing directly, wirelessly.

Output to TV

Modern TVs that support DLNA standards can display pictures and videos directly from the camera. Without wires, of course.

Different manufacturers pay different attention to the implementation of wireless functionality. Panasonic, for example, leads the way in terms of the variety of wireless features in its products. Samsung comes in second place, but has been more active and has been promoting Wi-Fi to the masses for a long time. The company has even created something like an ecosystem called Smart Camera 2.0 - a family smart cameras, capable of communicating with other devices. Other manufacturers, such as Fujifilm, Olympus, are so far making only timid steps in this area.

Today there are three ways to configure wireless network and establishing a connection. In the first case, the camera works as a Wi-Fi access point, and remote connections are made manually and using known network data (SSID, password, and so on).

The second method was proposed by Panasonic. The essence of the idea is the use of an NFC chip that transmits network settings to a smartphone or tablet when they are in close proximity to the camera. In this case, the connection is configured automatically. Today there are only 5 models of the family Panasonic Lumix and one model of the Samsung NX series are equipped with NFC. It is also worth noting that NFC technology has not yet reached Apple products, so pairing an iPhone or iPad with a camera will not work in this way.

The third, most elegant method belongs to the engineers from Olympus. Instead of an NFC module, a camera display is used, on which a QR code with Wi-Fi connection settings is displayed. A smartphone with a pre-installed proprietary application reads this code with its own camera and makes the connection. So far only the model can boast of such an extraordinary way Olympus PEN E-P5.

We decided to present all the main Wi-Fi functions in the form of a table and use it when describing the cameras further. The presence or absence of a particular function will be indicated by the signs “+” or “-”. The table will also indicate the name mobile application necessary for work and important comments. It is worth noting here that manufacturers have unfairly ignored the Windows Phone system - not a single application has been released for it yet! However, the situation will change in the near future.

Android cameras

Another category of cameras stands apart - compacts based on Android. While we were preparing this material, Samsung managed to release two more devices, including one mirrorless camera – the Galaxy NX. We will talk about it in a separate review.

Samsung Galaxy Camera

Samsung Galaxy Camera with only Wi-Fi on board came out later than its more advanced sisters with 3G and 4G modules. However, in our case this does not change the essence - otherwise the functionality of the cameras is identical. The main feature of the camera is Android OS version 4.1 and a powerful “smartphone” filling in the form of a quad-core processor with a frequency of 1.4 GHz. A large 4.8-inch touchscreen is used for control. Photographic hardware looks more modest. The 16.3-megapixel sensor is made using BSI CMOS technology and has a standard 1/2.3" format for compacts, which in any case is larger than modern smartphones can afford.

Step-by-step setup guide

Select Nikon DSLR and COOLPIX cameras have built-in Wi-Fi®. This makes it easy to transfer images from the camera to a compatible smartphone or tablet for sharing with others. Important feature What's great about Wi-Fi-enabled Nikon cameras is that the user does not need to be near a Wi-Fi hotspot to connect to a smartphone or tablet. The camera can connect to a smart device directly.

Most smartphones have a photo function, but digital cameras Nikons tend to take better photos. This is due to the fact that digital cameras use larger sensors and more powerful image processing systems. The camera's sensor provides higher resolution and increased dynamic range, and also allows for low-light photography and high ISO sensitivities. All this guarantees high quality photographs. In addition, Nikon digital cameras come with high-quality NIKKOR lenses, optional accessories and a variety of features to help you get creative with your photography.

Images can be downloaded to a compatible smart device that has Nikon's Wireless Mobile Utility (WMU) app installed. This app is available as a free download from the iTunes Online Store® and Google Play™ Store for Android™ devices.

A high-resolution camera records large files, so it is not recommended to shoot at the maximum resolution if you plan to transfer images to a smart device via Wi-Fi. This is because the larger the file size, the longer it takes to transfer it from the camera to the device. For the same reason, it is recommended to choose the JPG file format rather than NEF. Also, when shooting images with JPEG Fine settings. quality." and "Large" files will be larger than if you select the "JPEG Low" option. quality." and medium or small size. If images are intended to be viewed only on digital devices, you can preset the camera to record smaller files.

If you still want to take photos at the camera's higher resolution, configure the app to load only the recommended size or even smaller VGA resolution images while recording high-resolution images to the card . The necessary settings can be set in the application menu.

Remote control

The smart device can be used for remote shooting. This will allow you to be in the frame yourself, or even set up your camera in nature and remotely press the shutter button to photograph wild animals. And most importantly, you will be able to see on the screen of your smart device exactly what is captured by the camera lens. This way you can choose the right moment to shoot. To find out if your camera supports this feature, refer to the camera's user manual.

Nikon digital cameras with built-in Wi-Fi make it easy to share photos with friends and family. You can also share videos shot with a Nikon digital camera.

Using your compatible camera's built-in Wi-Fi

To use the Wi-Fi feature of your Nikon camera with built-in Wi-Fi, you need to download the free Wireless Mobile Utility app.

Additionally, full access to the Wi-Fi menu requires that a memory card be inserted into the camera.

Usage Android devices

Android™ device users should download the app from the Google Play™ Store and install it on their Android™ device.

Using your Apple™ device

iOS device users should download the app from the iTunes Online Store®.

Android users can connect their smart device to a compatible camera in three ways, while iOS users only have one. The following instructions for connecting by selecting WI-FI networks or camera SSID on a smart device is suitable for both Android™ and iOS users. This is the fastest and easiest way to connect, as it uses an unencrypted connection.

Android™ users can also establish a connection using the WPS (Wi-Fi Secure Setup) button if the smart device supports this feature, or by entering a PIN code for WPS (Wi-Fi Secure Setup). Step by step instructions For connection settings using these methods, see the camera's user manual.

Once connected, you will be able to access your camera from the app. When you select the Remote Shooting function in an application Live mode view starts automatically, allowing you to see what's in the camera lens on your smart device screen.

Connecting a compatible camera to a smart device

1. Turn on your camera's built-in Wi-Fi. The newest models are equipped with an external Wi-Fi button. On some earlier models, you must select Wi-Fi from the setup menu.

2. Open your smart device's Wi-Fi settings and select your camera from the list of available networks. The network name starts with the word Nikon followed by a series of letters and numbers. Android users only need to set up a network connection once, and then the device will automatically connect to the camera when the camera's Wi-Fi module is turned on. iOS users need to complete this step every time they want to use the Nikon camera's wireless module to connect to a smartphone.

3. Launch the application on your smartphone Wireless Mobile Utility.

Connecting a compatible Android™ device to an NFC-enabled Nikon camera

Users of a smartphone running Android 4.0 or later and a Nikon camera with NFC technology can use the NFC (Near Field Communication) feature to connect the Nikon camera to the smartphone and open the app.

It will be enough for you to arrange label N camera next to your Android smartphone to launch the Wireless Mobile Utility app and establish a connection between both devices. After this, you will be able to take pictures or view the pictures.

Select Nikon digital cameras have built-in Wi-Fi, allowing you to easily connect them to compatible smart devices. Wi-Fi module settings can be found in the settings menu.

Go to Wi-Fi settings in the settings menu and select Enable to enable Wi-Fi on the camera.

Selecting "Enable" to enable Wi-Fi connections, you will see that Network Connection is set to ON.

The adapter won over with its reasonable price compared to Transcend WIFI SD, PQI Air and Eye-Fi. In general, this adapter is positioned for the purpose of quick access to footage in a camera or video camera. As it later turned out, you can ONLY download photo and video files via wifi.

The main advantage of the software is the Auto-Push function, in which all new files will be automatically uploaded to local storage on the client.
It is convenient to use this in a photo studio. I took a photo, and the freshly photographed face was immediately uploaded to the computer without any unnecessary movements.
In the Android version, the downloaded photo can be immediately processed in full. The list of effects and features is amazing. There are more of them than on Instagram. You can also view all EXIF parameters.

To view photo and video material, it is proposed to use two different pages “Photo gallery” and “Video gallery”. Which is a little inconvenient.

In this case, the last two points compress the files on the fly into a *.tar archive and issue them for download.
If you download a separate RAW or AVI file, the speed is limited to 1750 KB/s.
When downloading as an archive, the speed is up to 1700Kb/s.

P.S. For some reason, the TD did not start in the SD connector on Dell 27" and 30" monitors. Although the contents of the microSD on the computer were displayed.

P.P.S. I urge you for help in breaking this miracle micro-NAS router. I've already tried all sorts of tricky requests via the web interface. It looks like the web interface was not written by Indians.

In recent years, WiFi has been gaining more and more popularity among users, so it is not surprising that more and more different digital gadgets are acquiring support for this wireless communication standard. This trend has not spared our good old device - reflex camera WiFi has long been a reality. Today we will turn our attention to it and see what’s what and why it’s even needed.

How does a DSLR camera work with WiFi?

Actually, the WiFi camera is designed to perform three tasks:

  1. Directly send files to the Internet
  2. Transferring a photo to a computer or smartphone
  3. Remote camera control from your phone

If we're talking about As for amateur photography, then this opportunity is rather a pleasant, but not very necessary bonus to the camera. But professional photographers, when minutes matter and need to urgently send some sensational shot to the editor, will be very happy to be able to send their materials directly. If the camera with wifi also has Android OS, then you can even edit the photo before sending it.

Well, backup, which saves not only space on the memory card, but also protects your photos from loss due to the failure of this card or failure of the entire camera, will be very useful not only for professionals, but also for amateurs - it’s a shame to lose beautiful shots due to for a minor mistake or broken equipment.

The second is a more convenient wireless connection with the computer or TV itself - these wires always get lost, and if your camera also has some kind of non-standard connector and you don’t have a cable at hand, then you have to pull out the card and look for where to insert it to display your photos . To communicate with a PC or smartphone, you will need to first install some programs on them, which are abundantly available for free - there will be no problems with this.

It is also sometimes possible to establish a direct connection and exchange frames between several compatible wifi camera models.

And if you have a wireless printer at home, you can quickly and easily print your photos.

And the most interesting thing is the ability to remotely control the camera from your phone - it even exists! It can be very convenient to place the device at a distance and take pictures from a remote control cell phone.

In short, there are a lot of advantages - let's figure out how it all works.

How to connect a DSLR camera to a computer via wifi?

In addition to models that already have a built-in WiFi module, it is possible for a simple camera to connect to the network. To do this, it sometimes implements the function of supporting external adapters with corresponding connectors for different models.

Another option is to use special Eye-Fi cards in supported devices. In the latter case, however, the camera cannot work as an access point - that is, you cannot connect to it from other devices, but only download video from it to your computer.

I think it doesn’t make sense to simply list all possible uses - let’s look at a real example - connect the Canon EOS 70D to a tablet. There is a very wide built-in functionality of the wifi camera, there is almost everything that I have already listed - transferring images between several cameras with wifi, connecting with a smartphone, remote control from a computer, printing on a printer, uploading to the Internet and viewing images using the DLNA standard.

So, let's first configure the camera itself to work with WiFi to connect to a computer. First, let's enable the wireless module in the settings.

We go to the WiFi functions menu and come up with a name for our camera that will be displayed on the network.

After saving the settings, go to the menu for selecting wifi connection types and click on the “Smartphone” icon.

The next step is to decide how the connection will be made - directly or through an existing local network.

Direct connection of the camera to the phone via WiFi

Direct connection between a camera and a smartphone via WiFi is characterized by low communication quality and a short range. To activate this mode, you need to select “Camera access point mode” in the menu

After that, select “Connect manually” and set the network name (SSID).

After this, you can manually set the data transmission channel and encryption type, but this is not necessary. That's it - the access point has been created and you can go to your smartphone. To work with Canon cameras, you will need to install the “EOS Remote Utility” program on your smartphone or tablet - it is available for both Android and Apple.

We install it, launch it and select the type of work - viewing pictures or remote control. WiFi must be turned on on the phone.

After this, a search will be made for suitable cameras within the operating range - we will find ours and connect to it using the specified password.

After this, we again look at the camera, on the screen of which a request will appear to confirm the connection to it from your phone.

We approve and receive on your mobile phone or tablet either a list of photos from the camera or a panel for its remote control, depending on what we chose at first.

Connecting the camera to a computer via wifi

It is even more practical to use the local network that has already been set up in the house for a long time thanks to the articles on this site, so we will take the first step from the previous section and select “Infrastructure Mode” for the wifi connection type. After which you will be asked to find and connect to a suitable wifi network.

After this, just as in the previous case, open the EOS program, connect to the camera from your phone and work. For example, this is what the camera control panel looks like on your phone screen.

That's all, I think you understand why you need a camera with wifi.
