How to make a plate at home. Decorative plate. DIY decorative plate. Manufacturing instructions

Hello! I received another order and made several new souvenir plates using the reverse decoupage technique. Today I am sharing a master class with you.

I worked hard for work : glass plates, cotton pads and glass cleaner, acrylic paints: blue, black, cyan and white, printed pictures and napkins, adhesive paper construction tape, PVA glue, soft brush, white napkin, hot silicone glue, loop mount or plate stand, pieces of cellophane (for flowers).

I bought plates with a beautiful edge and lighter in weight than those on which reverse decoupage or painting is usually done.

I printed pictures with a view of the city and the sea on laser printer. I selected napkins with marine-themed motifs.

Everything is ready and you can get to work!

First, I thoroughly washed and dried the plates. I turn the plate over with the wrong side facing me and apply all the decor from it. reverse side(). I layer the printout using adhesive construction tape. Having cut a circle from the picture to the size of the bottom of the plate, I glue it in the center with PVA glue (facing away from me). I carefully expel all the bubbles. I sushi.

For this plate, I cut out eight motifs from a napkin and pasted them in the shape of petals. I sushi. Then, between the petals with a piece of cellophane rolled into a rose, I fill the background with three colors of acrylic paint.

On this plate I glued napkin motifs with overlapping shells around the edge. I dried it and applied white paint on top of a napkin. After drying, I completely cover the back of the plate with a white napkin and glue it with PVA glue. I sushi.

We have come across Oksana’s ideas and works more than once (for example, in the articles “City of washcloths” or “Beautiful postcard in 5 minutes”). And finally today - first hand information. By the way, the data is very relevant, because it’s coming soon (gift absorber 🙂). So let's begin.

A long time ago, along with the creation of ceramic dishes, a craving for beauty appeared - plates, bowls, jugs were decorated with images of animals, people, birds, flowers, intricate ornaments...

From then until recently, ceramic painting has been the domain of professionals. Why, ? Cups, plates, jugs were decorated with glaze; fixation - high-temperature firing in muffle furnaces. If the purpose of the dishes is not only to look at, but also to use, the requirements for glaze and firing are even higher...

It's easier today. Handicraft stores have a large selection of paints for painting, including ceramics. And you can paint a decorative plate with your own hands - easy, simple, affordable. But you need to take into account several important points, which we asked a professional.

The first question, without which the matter will not work at all:

— I would advise you to contact a consultant at any hobby and creative goods store with this question. Not only will they be happy to tell you, but they will also show you paint samples, which makes it easier to choose. You can find:

  • and transparent paints that resemble watercolors in effect,
  • and coverings with a beautiful glossy effect.

In addition, there are two paint options:

  1. Which do not require firing; good for decorative plates, but may not be suitable for dishes that come into contact with food.
  2. Which can be fixed at home in a conventional oven (for example, for 30 minutes at 150 degrees).

And if the instructions say that the paints are suitable for food utensils, Can

  • and eat from such plates and cups
  • and wash them in the dishwasher.

The main thing is not to confuse it :)

What else should you consider when choosing paints for painting ceramics??

— There are water-soluble paints for ceramics. They can be diluted with water. After drying, it is a very durable layer that is wash-resistant. And there are paints with solvents - be sure to ask the seller. You also need brushes, of course. Better in several sizes and shapes.

Well, there’s no way without ceramics. Smooth, glossy white (“porcelain”) plates, cups, bowls and any other products from the store are suitable. White - it’s more convenient to combine colors. Smooth - so as not to waste a lot of paint filling the pores. Glass is also suitable for drawing, so you can create stained glass windows.

- So, there is a plate, paints, brushes... And then? Procedure for painting plates?

— Choose a ready-made drawing from a book, the Internet, or make a couple of sketches on paper. The shape of the plate encourages you to choose a plot that fits into the circle. Here are a couple of examples of my decorative plates with a “round pattern”:

At first, you can transfer the drawing using carbon paper. It’s convenient to draw on your own with a light felt-tip pen: it’s easy to erase and edit. IMPORTANT: permanent markers do not erase, be careful. If the paints on ceramics are transparent, then lightly wipe the plate at the beginning - the outline of the design will become barely visible and disappear towards the end.

There are special contours for painting ceramics - paint in tubes with a thin spout. The outlines in the painting are usually white or black (but there are other colors). Purpose: the contour prevents the paint from spreading. Just trace the drawing with it, wait until it dries and paint. And with the help of such a contour you can imitate a stained glass window if you draw on glass.

- HM interesting! Are there any secrets or tricks in painting plates?

- Of course have! The more you draw and use different materials, the more tricks you learn! For example:

  1. The paint is matte or transparent - the painting will look different.
  2. Transparent colors can flow beautifully into one another, like watercolors. But try not to do more than one or two layers (otherwise the result will be dirt).
  3. Also important: any paint contains a solvent, and if the bottom layer is not dry well, the top layer can wash it out.

  1. Paint from the center to the edges so as not to accidentally touch the drawing that has not yet dried with your hand.
  2. After drying, you can apply dots with a white outline - the plate will become more decorative. I call it "white dot magic."

Here is an example of transforming a picture using white dots. Original drawing:

White dots come into play:

If you are using food grade paints, follow the instructions to ensure the design adheres well.

Do you often conduct master classes on plate painting? Lots of people willing?

— I don’t have a regular master class plan, I do it on request or by inspiration — we not only paint plates, but also

  • we paint pictures,
  • we sew toys from socks,
  • felting from felt,
  • do decoupage

Happy plate decorating!

Write reviews, comments and questions, if anything, we will get details and details.

Do-it-yourself plate painting is a creative activity that is accessible to both experienced and novice decorators. After all, the technique is very easy to master, does not require the purchase of expensive materials, waste of time and effort, so you do not have to be afraid of losing interest in the process. And hand-painting on glass and ceramics can become your permanent hobby, a method of relaxation, or even a hand-made business on Internet sites like the Crafts Fair or Etsy.

In this material we will look at the following methods and techniques for painting plates with your own hands, which are suitable for beginners:

  1. Painting using stencils and templates;
  2. Artistic hand painted plate;
  3. Stained glass painting.

Master class No. 1: chiseled plate painting

Dot painting of plates (pique or point to point) is a technique of drawing and creating contours with dots, thanks to which you can achieve the effect of chasing, inlay with stones, colored rhinestones or bead embroidery. In the photo below you can take note of successful combinations of colors and patterns (scroll the photo to the right).

Here are ideas for decorating bowls using the pique technique.

To work you will need:

  1. Cotton pads for degreasing and cotton swabs for correcting unsuccessful patterns;
  2. Ethyl alcohol, nail polish remover or special degreaser;
  3. Contour acrylic paints in the desired colors;
  4. Aerosol varnish to fix and protect the design;
  5. A needle and paper for cleaning tubes.

Adviсe:

  • If you want to use plates for their intended purpose, then choose baked acrylic paints labeled dishwasher ability or dishwasher resistant. Durable contour paints can be found in the Hobby Line brands Kreul, Decola, Marabu and Pebeo Vitrail.
  • The paints should not be too thick or too thin. You can check this in the following way: press on the tube - if the paint comes out easily, but in a puddle, then the consistency is too liquid; if it is difficult to squeeze out, then it is too thick. Before starting work, you need to test each tube, since different colors of paint of the same type may have different consistencies.
  • You can make dots with a small thin brush, needle or toothpick, using acrylic ceramic paints in regular jars if you find painting from tubes difficult.

Drawing technique

The first thing you need to do is degrease the surface well with alcohol or a degreaser using a cotton pad and only then start getting creative. Experienced craftsmen can draw directly on the plate, without using any sketches or markings, inventing patterns right in the process of work. You too can trust the free flight of thoughts and improvise. But if you want to realize a certain artistic idea, then it is better to first draw a sketch, template, stencil or marking, thinking over the colors and patterns.

For painting on glass, it is convenient to use templates that can be glued to the back of the plate.

Tip for beginners: before painting a plate, practice placing small, medium and large dots on paper at the same distance from each other with the same pressure and pressure on the tube.

  • The main rules: in one line there must be points of the same size, and the same distance must be maintained between the points, and it is very important that it (the distance) be minimal, that is, such that the points are “readable”, but do not merge into a continuous outline ;
  • Remember that the larger the dots, the greater the distance between them can be. And vice versa, the smaller the points, the smaller the indentation from each other should be;
  • You need to draw according to the principle from general to specific, that is, starting with large contours and ending with drawing small details.

After work, the paint should harden. There are three ways to dry them:

  1. Naturally for 1 day - if you want to use the plate rarely or even use it only as a decorative item.
  2. Dry with a hairdryer, and then leave the paint to harden naturally for 10-12 hours.
  3. Bake at a temperature of 150-170 degrees for half an hour, and then, without removing from the oven, let the dishes cool - in case you want to eat from painted plates. It is advisable not to wash painted dishes for 20 days after firing - this way the paint will last longer.

After the paint on the decorative plate has dried, you can seal it with varnish.

Master class No. 2: painting plates using stencils and templates

Another method that anyone can master is painting dishes using stencils and templates.

To work you will need:

  1. Acrylic paints for glass and ceramics or felt-tip pens for painting dishes, which come in different colors and rod thicknesses. In Russia you can most often find markers from Marabu;
  2. Art synthetic brushes of suitable sizes (if necessary) or a sponge for tamping;
  3. Nail polish remover, alcohol or degreaser and cotton pads for degreasing;
  4. Everything you need to draw and cut out a stencil or template: paper, cutter, pencil.

Drawing technique

First, you need to draw or print a ready-made stencil/template yourself, and then use a utility knife to cut out the required holes. Perhaps, in this technique, only this stage can be called labor-intensive. Then everything is much simpler: degrease the surface and glue the template to the bottom with tape.

Then we paint over/stamp the design using the stencil. Then you can place accents on your picture, draw details or contours.

If you were drawing acrylic paints, then you can dry them naturally, with a hairdryer or in the oven according to the recommendations of the first master class on dot painting plates.

Master class No. 3: Artistic painting by hand with brushes

Painting plates traditional way, that is, with brushes and paints - this The best way write a real masterpiece.

To work you will need:

  1. Art synthetic brushes of different shapes and sizes;
  2. Acrylic paints for glass and ceramics or water-based baked stained glass paints;
  • Tip: stained glass paints are more transparent and, at the same time, brighter, but they are a little more difficult to work with due to their liquid consistency and ability to spread over the surface, so they are often used in combination with contour paints that contain them. Also, keep in mind that solvent-based stained glass paints are not suitable for painting plates that will be used for their intended purpose.
  1. Any degreaser.

Drawing technique

First you need to write the underpainting, that is, draw large parts of the composition, which will be its basis. Next, add volume and depth to the design using dark and light colors. And then start drawing the details. At the end of the work, use the recommendations for fixing paint from the first master class.

Adviсe:

  • Mix paints and play with undertones to create unusual colors and effects.
  • Painting a ceramic plate with a matte glaze will be easier than painting on glossy ceramics or glass, since the paint will apply more densely and evenly.

These are simple, but interesting ideas for painting plates with brushes and acrylic paints with your own hands for beginner artists (scroll the photo to the right).

For those who have the skill and experience of drawing, we invite you to be inspired by the following selection of photos of painted plates.

Here's a great idea for painting saucers and plates from old tea sets.

Master class No. 4: painting on ceramics and glass with markers

Drawing with markers and felt-tip pens is familiar to all of us from childhood. With the help of special markers for painting dishes with your own hands, you can quickly and easily decorate ceramic plate inscriptions, as well as depict a graphic and very detailed picture. We look at examples of such decor in the following selection of photos.

To work you will need:

  1. Any degreaser and cotton pads;
  2. Felt pens of different colors and thickness of the rod.

Painting technique

  • Before you start painting on dishes, do not forget to degrease the surface.
  • The main rule is to try to draw the lines and contours of the drawing with small, frequent strokes - this way you are less likely to make a mistake.
  • Also try to draw from the general to the specific.

  • Preliminarily outline the contours of the drawing; if necessary, use a template or stencil.
  • Most markers dry in 24 hours, do not require burning, and are dishwasher safe.

Video tutorial: stained glass painting on glass

And finally, it was the turn of stained glass plate painting. This is a slightly more complex technique for painting on dishes due to the paint itself - as already noted, stained glass paints are liquid, and therefore they are often used to fill contours. They are also more transparent, glossy and less durable than acrylic. If you want to use “stained glass” plates, then choose only water-based paints, and upon completion of work, bake the dishes in the oven at a temperature of 170 degrees. If you want to hang a painted dish on the wall, then you can choose non-solvent-based paints and, in this case, do not forget to purchase varnish to fix the design.

The decor for the walls of the kitchen and rooms can be completely varied. We are used to hanging photographs, paintings, panels, embroideries and other decorative elements on the walls. But now we will talk about a more original option for decorating the room. Decorative plates, created with your own hands, is a wonderful addition to the interior of the kitchen. The composition of these plates will be a truly original design move.

Choosing an interior style

Decorative plates are most relevant in the cozy interior of the kitchen, but they will fit into other rooms of your home, be it a bedroom, hallway, living room or even a children's room.

The main thing is to choose the right image for the decor. As for the interior styles of a kitchen or other room, the following options are best suited:

  1. Country.
  2. Shabby chic.
  3. Classic.
  4. Provence.
  5. Fusion
  6. Scandinavian style.

Making a decorative plate for the kitchen with your own hands

Looking at a beautiful decorative plate, it’s so hard to believe that anyone can create the same one with their own hands. In fact, the work process is extremely simple. You can do this yourself and even involve your child in such an interesting work. So, for work we will need the following materials and tools:

  1. Shallow plate (white, made of ceramic).
  2. Bright acrylic paints.
  3. Tassels.
  4. Copy paper.
  5. Ready-made drawing (you can choose the appropriate option on the Internet and simply print it).
  6. Pencil.
  7. Hot glue.
  8. Fastening device.

Using carbon paper and a pencil, we transfer the image from the prepared picture onto the ceramic. As you can see, even a person who can’t draw at all can create a masterpiece with his own hands. Now choose black, brown or gray paint and use a thin brush to outline the contours of the transferred image. Let the contours dry completely.

When the contours are dry, paint over the free parts with bright colors. Let the plate dry completely and attach it to the wall. That's all. The exquisite interior decoration is ready.

Mounting methods

When your product is completely ready, all that remains is to decide how you will attach it to the wall. It is very convenient that there are many mounting options, and you can choose the method that suits you.

  1. You can purchase Velcro at an office supply or sewing store. One part of the Velcro needs to be glued with hot glue to the plate, and the second to the wall. This way you can quickly remove the plate while cleaning.
  2. The second mounting option uses a paper clip. You need to make a hook from a regular paper clip and prepare a square of thick fabric. Place the hook on the plate, pour hot glue on it and immediately apply the fabric. This hook is convenient to hang on a nail.
  3. If you want to attach the product with a pin, you can also attach it to the ceramic with hot glue (you need to attach the head of the pin, and the opening part should face outward).
  4. The next mounting option is very aesthetic. Take a piece of thick tape, thread it through a metal ring and fold it in half. Glue the edges of the tape with hot glue and glue it to the surface of the product.
  5. You can also make simple rings from the tape and secure it to your product using cold welding.
  6. In addition, you can always buy a ready-made plate holder. This could be, for example, an exquisite forged holder or an almost invisible plastic holder. There are also holders for several plates at once, made in the form of a beautiful wooden shelf.

Even in Ancient Greece, plates were divided into tableware and decorative; in China, already in the 7th century, they learned to produce porcelain dishes, but in Europe the secret of the finest Chinese porcelain was solved only in the Middle Ages. But how did the tradition of hanging decorative plates on the wall arise? Its origin is associated with another tradition - to reward subjects with exquisite porcelain tableware for special services to the state. Most likely, it was also influenced by the one that arose at the end of the 19th century. fashion for collecting. And so, in the 60s. last century, the factory of the French jeweler Rene Lalique produced the first collection of plates intended exclusively for home decor.

Today, “plate” decor does not lose its relevance and keeps up with the times. For example, you don’t have to buy special decorative or collectible plates - you can right now create a composition from the saucers you already have. In addition, wall plates can organically fit even into a modern, and not just into a classic interior, as was the case before.

Let's take a closer look at this type of decor and find out:

  • how to correctly create a wall composition based on the color, shape, size and pattern of the dishes;
  • how and where it can be placed;
  • how to hang plates on the wall with your own hands using store-bought or improvised means, including without drilling the wall.

Making a composition

When creating a collage of different plates, perhaps the main thing is that they have something in common. This may be a consistent color scheme, pattern, theme and/or shape of the dishes. It is also very important that the entire composition fits organically into the interior of the kitchen and does not clutter it up. Let's study successful examples of such decor.

Interior color scheme, walls and panels

  • On a plain background, you can hang plates of any color - from bright and variegated to contrasting or strict;

  • Keep in mind that the brighter or darker the wall, the brighter the saucers should be so as not to be lost against the background;

  • The color scheme of the wall composition can and should support the color scheme of the kitchen interior (furniture, curtains, decoration, etc.);

  • Black and white dishes, for example, from the iconic collection of Piero Fornasetti, will look great on a black or white background;

  • You can create a play between the colors of the plates and the colored wall;

  • In an interior with a light, pastel color scheme, plates of the same unobtrusive shades will look good;

  • If the wall in the kitchen is decorated with wallpaper with a pattern, then try to choose plates that would harmoniously combine not only with the color, but also with the pattern of the wallpaper;

We combine plates with each other

When making a collage of dishes, you can create a combination of different-sized saucers with designs on different themes, but in the same color scheme. In this case, the plates can be either plain or with a border, painting, or print.

Most often, the “plate” panel is united not only by color, but also by theme. For example, these could be souvenir plates brought from travels, or plant themes, as in the photo below.

The most original idea– hang a panel of plates, assembled according to the principle of a mosaic. The following photo shows the collection of ceramics designer Molly Hatch.

However, you don’t have to buy a ready-made panel, because you can create a “mosaic” from saucers painted with your own hands with acrylic paints.

Themes of decorative plates and interior styles

  • Traditional saucers with floral motifs, painting in the style of Gzhel ceramics, Chinese and Delft porcelain, with gilding, etc. are suitable.

  • requires floral decoration and pastel shades;

  • Kitchen interior in modern style will become more interesting thanks to the combination of a variety of bright and colorful plates, united by shape, color or patterns;

  • In ethnic styles, copper trays, plates with folk painting and textile ones, as in the photo below, are appropriate;

  • In country style, you can use original wicker plates, white ceramic dishes of various shapes, and simply traditional floral motifs.

Nine popular shapes for plate compositions

Having decided on the composition of your wall composition, you need to decide on the order in which the plates are placed relative to each other.

  1. One row (or more). With its help, you can create an accent on one of the walls - for example, on the one located near.

  1. Symmetrical composition. An ideal option if the rest of the decor in the room is also located symmetrically, or if you need to highlight a large object on the wall - say, a mirror.

  1. The entire wall. The composition should fill an empty section of the wall.

  1. Wave . Such a group in the form of a curved line will look amazing on an empty wide wall.

  1. Arch. This form will allow you to elegantly decorate the area around a large interior item - the same mirror or even a window.

  1. Patterns. It is easy to create fantasy figures from saucers - for example, a snowflake, an asterisk. However, keep in mind that in this case the fastening is checked especially carefully so as not to go beyond the boundaries of the figure.
  2. By size, that is, from large to small or vice versa. Such compositions are placed horizontally or vertically - the main thing here will be the correspondence of sizes.

  1. Around the door. Even if a spacious kitchen has enough decorative accents, the space near the doorway almost always remains free. You can use it to your advantage by placing a symmetrical composition of decorative plates.

  1. Free forms. Good decision to house a scattered collection or hand-crafted works. In this case, you don’t have to think about combinations of shapes, colors and sizes.

So, you have thought about what saucers the panel will consist of, played with combinations, laying out the dishes on the floor, all that remains is to implement your idea. How to secure the plates neatly and simply?

You can simply trace the plates on paper, cut out the resulting templates, secure them to the wall with pins (photo on the left) or tape, and only then start working.

You can also trace the outlines of the saucers on a large sheet of paper, transfer the paper to the wall, and then install it according to the mounting markings.

The mount, in turn, can be purchased or homemade:

  1. How to hang plates on the wall without using nails or making holes in the kitchen walls? Perhaps the only way This can be done using Command Velcro. They hold plates perfectly and are easy to peel off and re-stick. This mount is sold in Russia in many online stores, construction hypermarkets, etc. In the photo below you can see how they are attached to the wall and saucers.

  1. You can hang decorative plates using adhesive discs specially designed for this purpose - Disc Plate Hangers. Discs come in different diameters and are selected according to the diameter and weight of the cookware. This type of fastening has 2 drawbacks - they are not so easy to buy, since they are not sold in Russia, but they can easily be ordered on Ebay and other online stores. The second drawback is that you won’t be able to use them to hang plates on the wall without hammering nails into it.
  2. If you don’t want to buy fastenings, then you can easily make it yourself using a regular safety pin, a loop of tape, a paper clip and cold welding like Poxipol. If desired, this place can be decorated later.

Don’t forget that you can also use a ready-made mount for decorative plates:

  • Tabletop plate holder (left photo below):
  • Wall mounted plate holder;
