Printing on fabric at home. Application of acrylic paints on fabric. Using decorative elements

Fashion for creative pictures and catchy inscriptions on T-shirts never goes away. It changes, popularizes: either cartoon characters, or comic book characters, or life-affirming phrases, or quotes. famous people, but the essence remains the same - something unusual, attracting attention to clothes. A great alternative to the repeatedly reproduced version of the print on things from the mass market will be drawings on T-shirts with your own hands. This is an opportunity to choose a base of any quality and color, and express your individuality. A T-shirt that is hand-painted can become calling card owner or a great gift for a significant event.

How to print with acrylic paints?

A durable drawing at home can be applied using cold or hot batik, felt-tip pens for fabric, aerosol cans, using decals, but acrylic is the most reliable and popular. There are several ways to print with acrylic paints:

  • Copying a drawing from paper. This method does not require special artistic talents, only accuracy. The drawing can be done by hand or printed on a printer. All outlines must be a dark color that can be seen through the fabric of the T-shirt. For convenience, it is better to glue the finished drawing on thick cardboard, evenly pull the T-shirt over it and fix it around the edges with pins. Next, you need to carefully outline the contours with simple pencil or felt-tip pens on the fabric, and start filling with color;

  • Drawing on fabric by hand. This is a technique for self-confident, which gives more room for imagination. You can pre-draw the contours, or you can immediately start working with paints, creating a work of art on your T-shirt. The method is more suitable for light materials, and those cases where some negligence in the drawing is acceptable;

  • Stencil application. The easiest way to guarantee a good result. Stencil drawing is convenient because the picture can be copied many times on T-shirts, for example, for the whole family, the KVN school team, competition uniforms, or just a group of like-minded people who want to be recognizable in the crowd. To make the picture look more interesting, you can superimpose stencils of different sizes on top of each other, change the angle of inclination and colors;

  • Screen printing. Designed for complex drawings of several colors. It is applied with special ink and screen printing mesh, roller and other tools. This method is not suitable for beginners.

screen painting

Of these methods, the most common screen painting. It is simple to perform, economical in time and satisfactory in terms of results.

To paint, you will need: a cotton T-shirt, a stencil or cardboard for it, acrylic paints, a small dye roller, a tray for diluting paints, gloves, scissors or a stationery knife, masking tape, an iron.

The procedure is carried out step by step:

  • Washing. Many people want to skip this step, but it must be done. Acrylic paints work best on cotton, and cotton tends to shrink when washed. The drawing will not shrink with the size of the T-shirt, it will deform, and the work will be spoiled along with the T-shirt and the gift of translated materials.

After washing, the T-shirt must be well dried and ironed so that the base for the pattern is as even as possible;

  • Stencil blank. While the T-shirt is drying, there is time to apply the design on thin cardboard. You need to cut out the contours very carefully, without notches, otherwise the edge of the pattern on the fabric will turn out to be uneven. For the first attempt, you can buy a stencil in a store or stick a printout from the Internet on cardboard;

  • Work surface preparation. A flat, hard surface, such as a desk or coffee table, is suitable for drawing a picture. Everything necessary tools placed side by side, on the side of the working hand. Acrylic is hard to wash off, so it is better to cover the table with old newspapers, and start the creative process in old clothes;

  • T-shirt preparation. A clean, ironed thing must be placed on the work surface, straightened out so that there are no wrinkles and irregularities. It is recommended to put a thick layer of paper or cardboard inside so that the acrylic does not print on both sides of the T-shirt, if this is not the idea. Next, a stencil is applied to the T-shirt. To keep it in place during painting, the edges must be glued with paper tape;

  • Dilution of paints. To prevent acrylic from drying out ahead of time, pour the desired color into the tray or mix it from several different ones immediately before application. In order for the paint to lay flat, the roller must be evenly saturated with acrylic. To do this, it is dipped several times in the tray until it gets a little heavier, and then a test smear is made on a piece of paper. If the layer is dense, you can start painting;

  • Drawing drawing. With confident movements horizontally and vertically, “roll up” the stencil with a roller. You can go beyond the edges of the picture, but not over the edges of the paper; It will not be superfluous to apply a second coat of paint. When it dries a little, you can remove the stencil and leave the drawing to dry completely;

  • thermal effect. The ink will set better if you iron the fresh print with a hot iron through a thin cotton towel. After that, the T-shirt can be worn and washed. The first few times it is recommended to do this in cold water on your hands, and the next - in a typewriter with other things.

How to create an abstraction?

A boring old t-shirt can be revived with an unusual space print. Drawing planet stencils is not required for this, all you need is a T-shirt, acrylic, gloves, bleach in a spray bottle and a few brushes.

If the T-shirt is new, it must first be washed and dried. The old one must be clean and ironed. Abstraction is best applied to fabrics of bright or dark colors; it will not look so impressive on white and light colors.

The drawing process begins with the preparation of the working surface, in this case, the floor. It should be located away from the walls so as not to splatter them with paint, and carefully cover the creative area with newspapers. Then you can start working materials.

First of all, you need to dilute a small amount of bleach with water in a spray bottle, prepare brushes and bottles of paint of your preferred colors.

From an arm's length, apply a bleach solution to the T-shirt, wait until it changes color and dries. Then, opening the paints, alternately dipping the brush in different colors, spray them on a T-shirt. Very small details are more convenient to work out with a toothbrush, spraying a fine layer of paint directly over the fabric.

If desired, you can repeat the procedure with the second side of the product after the print on the front side is completely dry.

Drawing in knot technique

Knot technique is inherently a kind of batik. The main difference from traditional painting on fabric is that as a reserve (a substance that separates one color fragment from another, preventing the colors from mixing), it is not a special adhesive solution that is used, but threads, ropes and bundles.

With the help of threads, knots of different sizes are fixed on the fabric, which are lowered into the paint. As a result, the paint fills only the fragment that is separated by threads, and diverges in beautiful “rays” along the creases in the fabric.

Making knots is pretty easy. There are no patterns and special rules, the fabric can be folded and bandaged at your discretion. The main thing is to decide how big or small the colored fragments will be, and carefully separate one from the other with the help of threads or string.

It is better to take white threads so that they do not shed during dyeing. Of course, this can give an additional element of decor, but it can also spoil the whole idea.

In addition to threads, buttons and pebbles are often used to fill one or another piece of fabric so that the paint lies more interesting.

Nodular staining is performed in stages.

Training

The first stage is the choice of fabric and its preliminary preparation. Batik is applied to cotton, silk or wool products; the preferred color is white. Depending on the idea, before tying the knots, you can apply splashes, stripes, stains or patterns to the T-shirt.

Node formation

The second stage is the most important. It depends on how the drawing will turn out in the end. After twisting the fabric in a certain way and tying knots, you can get circles, flowers, stripes, or you can make them arbitrarily, and then the pattern will be unpredictable and original.

Filling Nodes with Color

The third stage involves the choice of staining method. The most reliable is to lower the knots one by one in a container of boiling colored water. This method guarantees the penetration of paint into all layers of the fabric and gives the effect of flowing from one color to another.

The fastest is the use of spray paint. For a lasting effect, it is enough just to spray it on the texture of the fabric for a few seconds, but there is a risk that the knot will not be completely dyed.

The longest and most costly in terms of materials, but also the most beautiful as a result, is the use of pure paint. If you want smooth and soft transitions, the knot must be moistened before dipping it into the paint. If a bright, rich ornament is a priority, the T-shirt fabric can be left dry. So, to paint a t-shirt with clean paint, first of all, decide on the colors of your future t-shirt, put them in molds and dilute with a little warm water.

It is important to observe the proportions of paint and water. If the ink ratio is greater, then the color of the pattern on the T-shirt will turn out to be more saturated. But at the same time, it is not necessary to make the solution very thick, otherwise it will lead to coarsening of the tissue. The solution should not be too watery either, as this will lead to loss of color when the T-shirt dries.

Then we proceed directly to the coloring of the T-shirt. We take a syringe, draw a solution into it and begin to squeeze the solution onto a T-shirt.

The more knots and colors involved, the more interesting the print will turn out.

fixing the paint

When the product has dried, it must be ironed through a thin fabric without a pattern, so the paint will better fix and last longer.

Fifth stage final. It is optional, but nevertheless, you should not skip it. The knot technique requires the use of a large amount of dye, which can begin to wash out during the first wash. To prevent this from happening, a day after fixing the paint, the T-shirt must be moistened and rinsed in running water, washing out the excess amount of acrylic. After that, the product is ready to be worn and washed along with other things.

Master class on painting at home

Drawing a picture on things with your own hands is a time-consuming process, but not difficult. The classic version on a white T-shirt is performed as follows: drawing a pattern, contouring, filling with color, fixing the paint with an iron.

Form a very durable pattern that is not washed off with water even when used detergents, so they are widely used for painting T-shirts, jeans, bags and other wardrobe items made of natural fabrics.

The proposed acrylic paints for fabric are diluted with water. It is recommended not to add too much water, so that the dyes do not spread on the fabric and reduce the coloring power. Rinse brushes and accessories with water until the paint dries.

Our fabric dyes are designed to decorate natural fabrics such as linen and cotton. The structure of natural fabrics allows dyes to penetrate the fabric into the depths of the fibers and firmly attach to them. If you use permanent dye on fabric for synthetic materials, keep in mind that they are more sensitive to washing, since synthetics do not provide a strong adhesion to the paint.

To obtain intermediate colors, fabric paints can be mixed with each other in any ratio. When using new fabrics, wash before applying dye to the fabric. Wrinkled fabric should be carefully ironed to eliminate all wrinkles.

The fabric can be stretched over a frame or simply laid out on the desktop, placing a sheet of paper or cardboard under it to protect the table. Penetration of dye through the fabric to the back of the fabric is a positive factor contributing to the best fixing of the pattern. If you're decorating a T-shirt or pillowcase, you need to isolate the front from the back with paper or cardboard. To simplify the work, the fabric can be fixed on the table with adhesive tape.

ATTENTION! To create a durable pattern on the fabric, you should avoid imposing paint on the fabric in dense layers on top of each other.

There are several simple ways applying paint on the fabric to the material.

When using a brush(predominantly synthetic brushes are used for painting) first you need to apply any pattern to the fabric using a colored pencil or carbon paper for tailors (it does not leave stains on the fabric), taking it, for example, from an embroidery magazine.

To perform color tests, keep a piece of canvas or similar fabric handy. When working with shades, it is important to remember that it is more convenient to start with light tones, gradually moving to dark ones. Light colors are obtained by mixing white paints on fabric with colored ones to the desired shade.

The contours of the drawing are applied with light paint using a soft thin brush. Coloring inside the contour and the transition of tone from light to dark is carried out using a larger brush.

The drawing will turn out to be the most successful if you make a large number of transitions from light to dark. Try to work as quickly as possible, then the paints on the fabric that have not yet penetrated deep into the material will be mixed, leaving no noticeable boundaries between the tones.

Screen printing is another way to apply a pattern to a fabric. It is necessary to fix the selected stencil on the fabric, making sure that it is tightly applied. Depending on the size of the jewelry, choose a brush for tamping, use a foam swab or roller.

Lightly dipping the swab in the paint, carefully process the slots of the stencil so that the paint penetrates the fabric into the depths of the fibers. You can use both pure and mixed colors in the same or different slots. When finished, carefully remove the stencil.

Often acrylic paints on fabric are used in conjunction with Acrylic embossed paint "Contour" . That is, a relief contour of the picture is created, and then when it dries, the inner parts of the picture are painted over with the selected colors.

Fixing:

After completion of work, it is necessary to wait 12-15 hours, then fix the pattern by ironing it with a hot iron from the wrong side for 2-3 minutes.

Be aware that fabric paints contain a heat-setting resin that adheres much stronger to the surface after heat treatment(acrylic paint on fabric is already indelible, but heat treatment significantly improves paint adhesion). The temperature of the iron should correspond to the type of fabric, iron slowly and continuously, do not hold the iron in one place. Protect the board with a cloth while ironing. At the end, the fabric must be turned over and quickly iron the pattern, covering it with material.

Care:

The decorated fabric is the result of handwork, therefore, the patterns created with the help of paint on fabric need to be treated with care during washing. When using a machine wash, it is better to choose programs for delicate fabrics with a temperature not exceeding 40 ° C.

Do not use a long spin, this leads to premature wear of the pattern.

If the product is small, it is better to wash it by hand.

Do not use bleach so that the dyes on the fabric do not lose color.

How to draw on a T-shirt?

In the first part of our article, we will tell you how, using the simplest tools and paints for fabrics, and even without special skills, you can fantastically change your clothes, giving it a unique, individual style!

Consider the process of applying a pattern to a fabric with aerosol dyes using the example of a regular T-shirt of a uniform color. We will tell you how to give an interesting texture to the fabric of a T-shirt using the so-called "knot technique", and how to apply an original pattern to it using a stencil. Note that these two methods of working with fabric can be used both separately and perfectly combined with each other.
The T-shirt may be new or used, it is only important that it be made from natural textiles (cotton, silk, etc.) or, in the case of mixed fabrics, include no more than 20% synthetics. We recommend washing a new T-shirt before dyeing to remove softening additives.

What do you need to dye a T-shirt at home?

Step_3 Lay out the T-shirt horizontally on a level surface. Carefully cover the area around the painting with old newspapers or a special covering film, fix the covering material with masking tape.

Step_4 Carefully attach the stencil to the T-shirt using double-sided tape or spray adhesive for temporary fixation. Try to ensure that the stencil fits as closely as possible to the fabric. Note that it is aerosol glue that provides the maximum tightness.

Step_5 Before starting work, shake the paint in the aerosol can well; shake it for at least 30 seconds. Apply spray paint in smooth, circular motions. For better coloring of the material, it is desirable to apply the paint at least 2 times, allowing the previous layer to dry for 10 minutes.

Step_7 Just like in the “knot technique”, you can apply patterns, ornaments or inscriptions in the form of clear, dense lines to the drawing created using a stencil using colored liners containing water-based textile paint.

Now that you've got the basics of working with fabric dyes at home using a simple t-shirt as an example, you can start experimenting with your clothes to give them an unusual, dressy look. You will need

  • inkjet printer, special fabric paper, large sheet of newspaper to protect the work surface, fabric paints, palette, sponge or brushes for painting, strong cardboard, stencil, hoop.

Instruction

The fabric (clothing) must be washed and ironed before applying the pattern so that the colors are well absorbed and the sticker sticks well.

To apply with thermal printing, find a suitable image or create it yourself using Adobe Photoshop or Corel Draw graphics editors. Use the Preview feature to get a better idea of what the drawing will look like. Print the image on inkjet printer on a special film - TTS for white or OBM for dark and color.

Carefully cut off the excess around the pattern with scissors. Remove excess thermal film with a needle. Place the pattern on the fabric with thermal film, cover with gauze or a thin cloth on top and iron it for about 15 seconds. Remove the film.

In order for the image on the fabric, lay it on a work surface so as not to stain it with paints. Lay out the fabric. If it's clothing, put heavy cardboard inside so the paint doesn't seep through and smudge the other side. Fix the product on the work surface with adhesive tape.

Place a stencil on the fabric, secure it with safety pins or tape. Carefully read the instructions that come with the paints. If required, use the palette. Pick up paint on a sponge or brush and carefully outline the contours of the stencil. If you have spray paints in cans, then it is better to protect the fabric around the stencil with newspaper. Remove the stencil carefully after drawing. Do not remove the cardboard until the paint is completely dry. You may be using paints that are fixed with a hot iron - in this case, follow the instructions.

There is a way to apply a pattern to the fabric using a hoop. Transfer the design to the fabric using white transfer paper or felt-tip pens. Hoop the fabric and paint it with white paint around the design to create a dense base. When the substrate dries, paint the picture - first dark shades, then light ones. A day later, after complete drying, iron the fabric from the wrong side with an iron to secure the pattern.
