Which provider is better Rostelecom or MGTS. What to prefer: Internet from MGTS or online? Mgts or online - which is better in terms of speed and stability

Below the small size is my opinion about this provider.

A few months ago I connected to a wonderful service for a home user - home Internet via optical fiber from MGTS, GPON. This was preceded by the forced transfer of home telephone numbers to digital (the district telephone exchange is serviced by the same MGTS). Both the Internet and the landline phone work from one GPON modem, so I didn’t even bother, I just connected the Internet from my personal account in addition to the phone and connected the patch cord from the modem to the router.

Before MGTS voluntarily and forcibly came to my home, I used OnLime-Rostelecom 100100 Mbit for 700 rubles. And I liked it, I can’t say anything particularly bad, except that over the course of a year I accumulated a total of 3-4 days of downtime. The problem with online and almost all other providers is that they were stuck at the beginning of the 2000s in the approach to building the “last mile” - i.e. home equipment for organizing your Internet. As soon as 100 MBits is no longer enough for you (and this happens) and you start looking for how to connect more, a funny fact is discovered. Online deliberately crimps your final wire into the apartment so that it only connects 100 Mbps to the home router. I haven’t checked, but probably the router itself in the attic can no longer do it (or the speed has been specially reduced). That is, it’s time to look for another provider, you can’t jump any higher.

At that time (2014), there were only two companies in Moscow providing a 1GBit connection to a home router and tariffs of more than 100Mbits - 2KOM and MGTS with his GPON. 2KOM doesn't have much coverage, and my house wasn't on their network. MGTS I was just beginning my optical march through the city, and my house was in the plans for connection, but I still have to wait a few more months. The tariffs, of course, were also impressive. As with all the “coolest” things, you have to overpay quite significantly, MGTS offers a maximum of 500 MBits for 1,700 rubles per month. So I left this question until late, although I often remembered it when working with large amounts of data on the network.

So I connected myself to 200 Mbits MGTS GPON and I’ve been using it for 8 months at the time of writing this post. Today this tariff costs 1000 rubles per month. I won't say anything bad at all. Not a single blackout during all this time and no drops in speed. Of course, you need to include a little realism and understand that not all resources on the Internet can give you at least the full 100MBits. The services of Yandex, Google, and Microsoft are definitely capable of high speeds. One of these days I’ll connect 350 MBits, I’ll post the results.

Today, several dozen providers provide Internet connection services on the market. various sizes. Among the large ones we can highlight Rostelecom and MGTS. Which provider is better?

Provider Features

Each provider has its own characteristics, strengths and weak sides:

⦁ Monopoly. MGTS is a monopolist in the capital, therefore, in addition to the standard tariff, it includes a telephone line service fee in the cost of using the Internet. Rostelecom does not charge additional funds for servicing its cables; it is immediately included in the cost of providing services.

⦁ Technologies. Both providers use PON technology, which is distinguished by its efficiency, high speed access, and also has a lot of other advantages that positively affect the quality of communication and facilitate service.

⦁ Cost. MGTS, as a monopolist, does not seek to significantly reduce the cost of its services for the end consumer. Rostelecom, in turn, is doing everything possible to make their services as accessible as possible, thereby posing serious competition to MGTS. The cost of Internet access from Rostelecom is much lower than from MGTS.

⦁ Additional services. Both telecom operators, in addition to the Internet, provide customers with various additional paid services, for example, television and other interactive services. At the same time, the number of services offered by Rostelecom is noticeably greater.

⦁ Settings. Rostelecom's Internet connection settings system is much more flexible. You can carry them out without leaving your home using a personal computer.

⦁ Coverage area. If the MGTS company is focused mainly on the capital and occupies more than 80% of the Moscow market, then the Rostelecom company is focused on providing services throughout Russia and is gradually stepping on the heels of its competitor, systematically winning back part of the market even in the capital.

On this moment Rostelecom is one of the main competitors of MGTS and, according to experts, can win most of the monopolist’s audience.

You can find out about the possibility of connecting to the Internet in a specific city and at a specific address on the website rt-podkluchit.ru, where actual information, and there is also a special form in which data about the connection location is entered. The system independently analyzes the data and notifies the user about the possibility of connection.

Moscow telephone number without a monthly fee and even without a telephone wire? “Home Phone” from OnLime is not only a landline number in the 499/495 code, but also all the capabilities of modern digital telephony.

Many have already come across such concepts as IP telephony, Internet telephony, VoIP or SIP telephony - one of the types of IP telephony. We will not delve deeply into the essence of these concepts. It is only important to understand that IP telephony is the same as telephone communication, but instead of a telephone line - a dedicated copper pair - a data transmission network is used, for example, the one through which you access the Internet.

Why pay more?

In these difficult times, many are already thinking about giving up the traditional landline phone. Some are tired of endless advertising calls, others have long switched to using a mobile phone. And why pay for a telephone line that you don’t use when you have mobile communications and the Internet? But it's not that simple. In a number of situations - when obtaining a bank loan, making an appointment with a doctor, etc. - you may be required to provide a home phone number rather than a mobile phone number. And your grandmother is accustomed to a traditional device; she will never learn how to operate a mobile phone.

Moscow telephone number without monthly fee. Is it possible? Quite. And there is. Let's look at the simplest one, when you don't need to bother with purchasing equipment - everything will be provided by the provider. And you don’t even need to change your old analog phone if you value it as a memory. The device will work as before. And even better when it comes to sound quality and features.

This opportunity is available to OnLime (Rostelecom) users, who can activate the “Home Phone” service for free and, as a result, receive a Moscow number and a starter set of equipment as a free addition to the Internet. What do we get as a result? Landline number (provided in code 499 or 495), landline, mobile, long-distance and international telephone communications by favorable rates (low prices for outgoing calls), free services (automatic caller ID, call holding, call forwarding), the ability to connect additional services (anti-caller ID, number change, favorite direction).

All this without paying for a subscriber line or any additional mandatory monthly payments. Only calls are paid. And no upfront costs. Everything is free: connection, equipment, number selection, caller ID. You only need to pay for calls, and the rates are quite reasonable and cheaper than similar services from competitors.

Local calls from an OnLime home phone are charged at 50 kopecks. for 1 minute of connection with city telephony subscribers in Moscow and 1.5 rubles. in 1 minute connection with mobile phones Moscow and Moscow region. For long-distance and international calls there are three tariff plan and several Options in directions. Options make it possible to make calls to selected regions of Russia (to selected foreign countries) at a low price, and the “Zero within the network” Option makes it possible to make free calls to Rostelecom subscribers throughout Russia (100 minutes daily).

Always with you

This home phone has another huge advantage. When you move to a new Moscow apartment, the telephone number - a direct number in the code 499/495 - will remain with you. This is especially convenient for those who rent housing. However, it will not be possible to transfer an MGTS telephone number to OnLime: for fixed-line networks, the law on number transfer does not yet work, although technically such a possibility exists.

Just like in MGTS, to use a landline phone you need to connect to the operator’s network (in our case, to the OnLime network). And if there is a power outage, the phone will not work unless you have an uninterruptible power supply. However, it will not work for GPON users from MGTS either. Perhaps these are the only drawbacks.

How to connect?

The procedure for connecting to the Home Phone service is simple. You apply via Personal Area, they call you back and clarify the address and convenient installation time. When ordering the service, you will be offered a choice of five rooms in three categories. A Standard category room is provided free of charge; when choosing from the Silver and Gold categories, with “beautiful” rooms, you will have to pay a little extra.

At the appointed time, the technician comes, connects the VoIP gateway, which receives all the settings over the network, and connects the phone. Connection takes 10-15 minutes. A VoIP gateway is a small box that is available for free rental. In the future, you will not need to configure or manage this gateway. The gateway simply works like a telephone adapter. This option is suitable for those who do not want to give up their old phone. Only the home number will change, or rather, the number at OnLime will be issued a new one, the number from MGTS will remain with you on the old line.

The wizard connects the gateway to your router with a standard Ethernet cable, or, if there is no router, the gateway will be connected to the OnLime wire in front of your computer. Next, any push-button or radiotelephone is connected via a standard telephone cable with RJ11 connectors. For this purpose, the gateway has a corresponding port (FXS port). Advanced models of routers, also available to OnLime subscribers, are already equipped with this port and do not require a VoIP gateway at all - this is a built-in function. So those users who do not want to install extra devices can choose this “premium” Wi-Fi router(aka router).

Another option is suitable for owners of IP phones - they can be connected with an Ethernet cable directly to the router. Now OnLime is simplifying the procedure for connecting Gigaset IP series phones - it will become automatic, the user will only need to enter the activation code (10 digits). For now, customization templates are used.

That's all, actually. After this, you can make calls as usual.

The subscriber voice gateway is designed to transmit voice and fax messages over IP networks (VoIP) and supports the SIP control protocol. Using the most advanced voice compression algorithms (G.711 codec) and quality of service, the VoIP gateway provides high quality speech transmission.

According to user reviews, the sound quality in Home Phone is very good, and the volume is higher than usual, so for those who do not have hearing impairments, you can reduce the speaker volume to a minimum.

Calls without a home phone?

In addition to connecting a standard home phone, OnLime allows you to use any of your devices for calls - smartphone, tablet, laptop. To do this, you need to install a special device on the device. software(SIP software), and they must also be connected to the OnLime Internet. You don't even need to call for this technical specialists- the provider explains in detail how to set up mobile devices on its website in the Help section - Landline telephone, and recommended SIP telephony applications for various operating systems are also listed there. You can set up mobile devices either instead of a regular landline phone or together with it - this will save you from having to run to the handset: incoming call goes straight to your connected devices.

However, calls from the OnLime number can only be made from a specific location, that is, from an apartment - the provider is obliged to limit the range of telephone communications by law. That is, even if you use a SIP client on your smartphone, in normal mode you will only be able to make calls from it within the coverage area of your home Wi-Fi network.

How does SIP work?

When an outgoing call is made from a SIP phone or from a regular phone via a VoIP gateway, the request goes over the Internet to the VoIP provider. It receives information about where you are calling and sends a request via the Internet to the local provider of this service, who makes a call to the recipient. In the case of OnLime Home Phone, the situation is somewhat different - local calls are transmitted over the Rostelecom network, so the provider has the ability to control the quality of communication by prioritizing voice and signaling. This distinguishes Rostelecom from IP telephony providers who provide services on foreign networks without prioritizing traffic.

At OnLime, the call goes from the apartment to the provider’s telephone switchboard, that is, they do not go to the Internet. The provider uses Category 5 SoftSwitch (carrier class) from Huawei as a switch. So if there is demand from consumers, including corporate users, the provider can configure a variety of additional functions. However, private subscribers and users of the SOHO segment do not require extensive functionality.

Phone or SIP client?

Which telephone device should I choose for my “Home Phone”? There are many possibilities - from the old analog wired set to hybrid DECT radiotelephones. A hybrid phone can work with both a land line and IP telephony. It has two ports for this. This option is suitable for those who do not want to give up their old phone number. You can get by with a program for your computer or smartphone.

For example, in latest versions Android has a built-in SIP client. Or you can download it from the "app store". If you have an iPhone or iPad, open App Store, enter SIP or VoIP in the search and choose according to your taste. Rostelecom is currently developing its own special application for IP telephony. Such a “communicator,” unlike Skype or Viber, will allow users to get a real landline phone number for calls to other phone numbers. Subscribers will be able to link their home number to the application and receive calls through it far from home, even abroad.

But in any case, it is better to think about buying a telephone that is convenient and functional. The task is made easier by the availability of instructions for setting up phones and SIP clients on the OnLime website. For those who like to do it themselves, there are also instructions for setting up routers.

Gigaset C530IP phone. A city line and the Internet are connected to it.

How reliable is it?

From the subscriber to the switch it goes twisted pair, switches are united by optical rings: access level, aggregation and DWDM backbone optical network.

Thus, the entire optical network, right up to the home switch, is redundant. In case of any single accident in the ring, connectivity is not lost. Only the line from the subscriber to the home switch is not reserved. The fanless switch is enclosed in a vandal-resistant cabinet and can operate in extreme temperature conditions. The SoftSwitch itself is reserved according to the N+1 scheme. And the phone will work even if the subscriber’s personal account has run out of money,

Let's sum it up

So, telephone communication from OnLime is a landline telephone in Moscow, city, mobile, long-distance and international telephone communication at competitive rates, no subscriber line fees, free services (Caller ID), call holding, call forwarding.

Among the additional paid services– “Favorite intercity”, “Call other countries”, anti-Caller ID, “Zero within the network”. The first makes it possible to call telephone numbers throughout Russia in one or more selected long-distance directions at a low price. The international telephone service “Call Other Countries” allows you to make inexpensive calls to telephone numbers in selected countries. “Zero within the network” means free calls to other numbers of Rostelecom subscribers throughout Russia. By connecting, the subscriber will receive 100 free minutes of calls. Of course, Rostelecom offers IP telephony services not only for the home, but also for the office - a virtual number and a virtual PBX. But that's a completely different story.

What’s interesting about providers is that for now you only need the Internet, everything has been great for a long time, but as soon as you become interested in television, all hell breaks loose. And we are talking about the Central Administrative District (Basmanny District). Parents are more interested in, first of all, TV, of course, and it’s better, of course, in HD/FullHD quality, but, of course, they also need the Internet. So, over the past few years I have already changed three providers for exactly the same reasons: it all starts with the disgusting quality of the TV signal (the image regularly disintegrates into squares or simply freezes), then interruptions begin - there may be no signal from an hour to several days (I’m not exaggerating ). Support in both the first and second cases cannot/doesn’t want to do absolutely anything. The first provider to be rejected was Akado - its equipment broke down twice in two years and both times it took several days to wait for a replacement! Moreover, during these few days the money continued to be written off, like if you don’t want it to be written off, come to the office and write a statement!
Ok, after the second case they abandoned them and switched to Online. Exactly a month later, almost the same hell began: squares, freezing of the picture and the complete inability of technical support to do anything. The master comes strictly from 9 to 18 and cannot do anything. After 8 months the TV signal completely disappeared. And the master was ready to come only after 6 days. Parents are people accustomed to TV and its presence is important to them. They abandoned Online.
Beeline was next. The circus with him began from the moment of connection. it makes no sense to retell all the rudeness thereof (I have never heard this in any support, when the user is “put on the device” even before connecting), I will give just one example. The technician only connects from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Ok, one of the parents takes time off from work and waits for the technician. The appointed time interval passes (and that’s 3 hours per minute!), no technician, no call. We call Beeline and find out that yes, the master will not be able to come today. Just think! So what if I didn’t even warn you - nonsense! He's busy!
In general, I talked closely with Beeline support and I can say that their service is the worst of all that I have ever encountered. The formula is something like this: “We don’t know anything, fly to hell!” Everything is in the “best Soviet traditions”.
The rest of the well-known providers (all sorts of quarters, city committees and others) are either not present in the parental home at all or do not provide TV services there.
Of course, I always communicated with them extremely politely, but persistently (at Beeline I reached the head of support in Moscow - in fact, after that, only I was able to call the master at a time convenient for the parents and, most importantly, this time the master arrived).
And, of course, after a short time the pictures, squares, etc. began to freeze.
In general, although it seems impossible to draw conclusions about the quality of services based on one specific house and three, albeit large, but still only three providers, I will nevertheless draw conclusions: with TV so far, apparently, everything is very, very sad, but with the service and It's a complete mess.

For an objective comparison, go to https://mgts.info/ and https://onlime.site/ to select an Internet provider to connect to Internet MGTS or OnLime, having decided on the more suitable one.

Since it is difficult to compare modern providers based on technical parameters, we will use basic criteria:

  • speed;
  • reliability;
  • good responsiveness;
  • availability of tariffs.

So, let's study in more detail the features of providing services.

According to tariffs, which Internet is better - OnLime or MGTS

We will consider tariff plans from different points of view. It is important to find out the most optimal prices with positive and negative sides.

OnLime offers to connect to global network, starting from 300 rub./month. for 15 Mbit, while MGTS (“Moscow City Telephone Network”) starts from 100 rubles/month. for 100 Mbit. But we must take into account that the tariffs are promotional and do not include the purchase/rental of equipment, additional services, and the price is temporary. So, after 60 days, the price of the Moscow network will increase by basic tariff– up to 450 rubles, while a competitor provides Wi-Fi for an additional fee – 69 rubles/month.

MGTS or OnLime, which is better, it’s impossible to say for sure. You should look at individual tariffs with options that will not be superfluous, or at promotions:

  • “Express 100” (499 RUR/month for 100 Mbit with a free router and 100 GB cloud storage) from OnLime;
  • 200 Mbit for 490 rub./month. from the Moscow network.

Analyzing all the offers, the tariff line of the Moscow network is noticeably more profitable, however, at the top tariffs, OnLime is more interesting both in cost and in bonus games: “WoT”, “Warface” and projects from “Fogame”.

MGTS or OnLime – which is better in terms of speed and stability

You should not judge operators only by the stability of the connection, because companies use in their arsenal: ADSL ( phone line), Ethernet (twisted pair), GPON (fiber optics) and other technologies. ADSL is less reliable because communication depends on many characteristics and on the distance from the communication center. Ethernet is strongly associated with connection points (switches). The optical connection is considered the most stable and fastest, but even here there is no guarantee that cable breaks will not occur somewhere.

Reviews from the Internet regarding quality are not credible, because most of them are fake, and those that are real are often biased. In addition, there is no “fool protection” on the part of the users themselves. However, OnLime, owned by Rostelecom, provides support faster, but this is a deeply subjective opinion.

When choosing MGTS or OnLime, it is more logical to give preference to optics or Ethernet, if, of course, there is a technical possibility. Both providers keep their networks up to date and also comply with the speed limits provided for in their tariffs.

MGTS or OnLime for games and entertainment

For relatively little money, you can also connect television to the Internet. By combining several services, operators reduce prices for each separately. For example, OnLime attracts customers with the “2 in 1 Year of Cinema 60” tariff, which includes 61 SD channels with a network of 60 Mbit/s. The Moscow network's set looks more tempting - at 90 Mbit/s 117 channels are delivered, and 14 of them are in HD. Typically, there is extended content in the form of movies and TV series.

Today the Internet is unthinkable without online battles. And the main thing about them is ping (response time). To play comfortably, you need a maximum of 30 ms, or even lower. Being the successor of Rostelecom, OnLime has adopted all its advantages. It has fewer intermediate nodes and more high-speed servers. In addition, the provider has a good range of gaming services.

The best provider - MGTS or OnLime?

When answering the question which Internet is better – OnLime or MGTS, it is necessary to take into account the user’s hobbies. If speeds above 100 Mbit and watching television are more important, then it is recommended to choose MGTS. For gamers, OnLime is great.

In any case, it is fairer to evaluate the quality yourself. Firstly, when you connect you don’t lose anything, but on the contrary, you gain. Secondly, these providers are in the top rating lists.
