This is the Federal State Statistics Service. It was created to maintain objective and complete statistical information on organizations, both governmental and non-governmental, individuals (authorities and management, the media, the population, the scientific community, commercial organizations and entrepreneurs, international organizations). Rosstat has a central office at the federal level and territorial bodies located in all subjects Russian Federation. Rosstat carries out its activities directly and through its territorial bodies.
The city of Moscow has its own territorial body - the Territorial Body Federal service state statistics for the city of Moscow. The abbreviated name of the territorial body is Mosgorstat. It collects and processes primary statistical data, administrative data, generates and provides official statistical information on social, economic, demographic, environmental and other social processes in Moscow to the Federal State Statistics Service (all data is sent to the central office), authorities state power Moscow, authorities local government, organizations and citizens. What is Statregister?
Rosstat maintains its own statistical database (Statistical register - Statregister). The database contains information on all business entities registered on the territory of the Russian Federation. The activities of individuals and legal entities are subject to mandatory registration in Rosstat. Thus, the state monitors the activities of individuals and legal entities.
What does the abbreviation OKVED mean?
When registering an individual as an individual entrepreneur or when creating a legal entity, the application shall indicate the types of activities that the individual entrepreneur or legal entity will be engaged in. Each type of activity is prescribed in the form of the OKVED code (All-Russian classifier of types of economic activity).
How to register with Rosstat?
After the tax authority has registered an individual as an individual entrepreneur or legal entity, it ships the data to the territorial body of the Federal State Statistics Service. There, the received data is processed and the codes of the All-Russian classifiers are assigned, such as:
- OKPO (All-Russian classifier of entrepreneurs and organizations, an individual registration number is assigned in the Statregister of Rosstat);
- OKOGU (All-Russian Classification of Government and Management Bodies, reflects whose property the enterprise is);
- OKOPF (All-Russian Classifier of Organizational and Legal Forms, an indicator of the form of ownership of the organization owned (private, foreign, etc.);
- OKATO (All-Russian Classifier of Objects of Administrative-Territorial Division, an indicator of the territory in which a particular organization is registered, indicating this code, taxes are paid on a territorial basis);
- OKTMO (All-Russian Classifier of Territorial- municipalities, indicates the territorial affiliation of the organization in municipalities);
- OKFS (All-Russian classifier of force property, assigns its own code to a certain form of ownership - Private property, code 16; Property of charitable organizations - code 50, etc.).
Thus, registration with Rosstat is carried out automatically by the registering tax authority.
In connection with the above, the newly created legal entities or individuals registered as individual entrepreneurs receive an information letter about registration in the Statregister of Rosstat (Statistics) along with documents on state registration with the registering tax authority. But in practice, not everyone is issued a statistics letter. If it has not been issued, then you must contact the territorial body of the Federal State Statistics Service at the place of registration to receive such a letter.
Without a letter, statistics will not be opened for you. checking account. This letter is also provided to extra-budgetary funds ( Pension Fund, social insurance fund, compulsory health insurance fund).
The tax inspectorate, after successfully completing the state registration procedure, in addition to extra-budgetary funds, transmits information about registered individual entrepreneurs and LLCs to the territorial body of the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat, Gosstat). Rosstat processes the received data and assigns codes from all-Russian classifiers to each individual entrepreneur and organization (these are statistics codes):
- OKPO (All-Russian Classifier of Enterprises and Organizations);
- OKATO (All-Russian Classifier of Objects of Administrative-Territorial Division);
- OKTMO (All-Russian Classifier of Municipal Territories);
- OKOGU (All-Russian Classifier of State Power and Management Bodies);
- OKFS (All-Russian Classifier of Forms of Ownership);
- OKOPF (All-Russian Classifier of Organizational and Legal Forms).
OKVED codes are also considered statistics codes, but are not in this list, since individual entrepreneurs and organizations independently select them at the stage of preparing documents for registration. OKVED codes are indicated in.

Why are statistics codes needed?
Obtaining statistics codes is not a mandatory procedure, and the notification itself is for informational and reference purposes only. However, you may need statistics codes:
- when preparing reports (declaration, KUDIR, PKO, RKO, etc.);
- when preparing payment orders or receipts for payment of taxes and insurance premiums;
- when opening a bank account;
- when opening a branch of the organization;
- when changing the place of registration of an individual entrepreneur or the address of the organization’s location (legal address);
- when changing the full name of an individual entrepreneur or the name of an organization;
- as well as in other cases.

Find out the statistics codes by TIN yourself online
In 2020, you can find out the statistics codes using the official website of Rosstat. To do this, you just need to indicate your INN, OGRNIP or OGRN, or OKPO.
Independently in the territorial body of Rosstat
You can receive a notification with statistics codes without an application from the territorial office of the Federal State Statistics Service (you can find the address and telephone number of your branch).
To receive a document with statistics codes, you must provide the following documents to the territorial body of Rosstat (they may not require anything at all):

Any organization is included in the statistical register immediately after registration on Russian territory. The notification document is sent by mail free of charge and without paying additional fees.
The information letter confirms that the organization is now listed in the Statistical Register of Business Entities.

Receipt of the letter is not mandatory for the organization, since it is solely for notification purposes. However, it is required for certain organizational situations: registering a bank account or preparing financial statements.
Documents required when receiving statistics codes with the Rosstat seal:
- OGRN;
- data from the Federal Tax Service;
- passport general director OOO;

Types of classifiers
The types of different classifiers include:
OKPO
By this eight to ten digit number, it is easy to determine which industry the company belongs to.
OKATO

OKTMO
These numbers help speed up the processing of received information.
OKOGU

OKVED
Necessary to determine the specific type of activity of an organization or individual entrepreneur.
The main purpose of the all-Russian classifier of types of economic activity (this is how OKVED is deciphered) is to classify and encode the economic direction in which the activities of the registered person will be carried out.
This number is needed when collecting and analyzing information about activities in a certain area, to calculate the rates of collected taxes. Unlike other classifiers, legal entities and entrepreneurs select OKVED simultaneously with the collection of a full package of documents for registration.
Statistical codes are a specific digital combination from which you can obtain comprehensive information about an enterprise (as well as about an individual entrepreneur). All codes, grouped by class, are in one registry. Any number contains 5 or 6 digits. By codes you can find out the main and additional types works, regulate economic sectors, conduct statistical research.
What are they needed for
Statistics codes may be required when performing various actions, for example:
- participation in state tenders;
- opening new branches;
- changes in information about an individual entrepreneur (full name, registration);
- obtaining documents from the customs department;
- changes in legal address;
- renaming the company;
- passing audits;
- obtaining licenses;
- opening a current account;
- and others.
The statistics code base is updated regularly, usually twice a month. If notification is required earlier, even before necessary information has been entered into the database, you can act through the local branch of the State Statistics Service. It must be located in the same territory where the applicants were registered.
Statistics codes are required to track the registration with Rosstat of each entity engaged in entrepreneurial activity. Based on these codes, areas of enterprise operation are determined, classified and grouped.
Where and how to get
It's quite easy to get the information you need. You just need to choose one of several options:
- At the same time with state registration. An entrepreneur or legal entity receives a notification with statistics codes immediately, simultaneously with a package of other documentation.
- By contacting the territorial office of Rosstat. If specialists tax office did not issue the necessary notification, it is allowed to write a corresponding application to the statistics authority. It should be accompanied by copies of documents on state registration (they do not need to be certified), on the assignment of a TIN, as well as information from the Unified State Register. The founder’s responsibility is to provide a copy of the company’s Charter. Under this option, the notification will be issued no later than five working days.
- If you want to avoid unnecessary hassle, you can entrust obtaining information about the codes to a specialized law firm. True, a preliminary agreement will be required.

How to obtain statistics codes by TIN online on the official website of Rosstat (step-by-step instructions)
In order to obtain statistics codes, you should perform the following steps on the official website of Rosstat of the Russian Federation:

When forming, you need to select desired type notifications, which may be for:

This algorithm is suitable for all subjects. However, please note that on weekends and holidays this online service may not provide the corresponding service. You need to take care of receiving information in advance.

Since the notification with statistics codes is an information and reference document, you can print it yourself. No special form of the organization, signature of an official or certification with a seal is required.
All legal entities and individual entrepreneurs must receive this data on time. There is no need to delay this procedure. Such information will be required immediately after starting business activities.
